Okay, here the dumb question of the day (or maybe the week). I have a Ford that the VIN says should have a 250 cubic inch six and a Jatco tranmission. It has been upgraded to a 302 V-8 but I don't know what the transmission is.... how do I identify the transmission???

Look at the transmission pan. There are picture guides on the web that show you what each one looks like. I will guess it’s a C4, the most common Ford automatic behind a V8 that vintage......

Look at it, and see what it is. Might be easier if you have experience with lots of different transmissions. But if you don't, you could take some pictures of it and post them here, and some of us who do have such experience, could probably tell you instantly what it is, just by how it looks.
