I have a 53 Merc. Monterey 2 door hardtop. Do the 53 Vic's. have a chrome strip in front of the vent window like the Mercs.? If so how do you remove them.

I believe what you are looking for is a cast piece in 52-3 it had a chrome covering in 54 it was chromed casting.if that is it then you would be smart to remove the whole ***embly usually the cast ones the plating is in bad shape.if that is what you need be aware that the attaching bolts are used to adjust the mounting .if not that piece then ignore the preceding

That is the piece I am talking about. How is it attached to the vent window frame. I cant see any bolts or mounting screws.

to be honest with you it has been to many years sorry.just as I said remove it carefully I remember it being a job so as not to destroy the mounting.a manual from memory describes the steps involved.if you do not have a manual you would do well to look up the reverend on here he has an excellent price on one with added features as well. he goes by dan55 on here look back a page on here he has a note about it

I have only seen the stainless vent strip on 1952 model Mercury Monterey HT's They always looked to me like they were spot welded in some way at the factory. In 53 Mercury went to cast and chromed front vent strips around the vent window. If your car is a 53 then it is either a very very early production run that got the 52 stainless strip installed or someone replaced them with the earlier year ones at some point in its life.

I have a 52 car I am using for some parts. The stainless around the vent is one part I was planning on using. It appears to be the stainless is some sort of overlay over the chrome type molding. The 53 I'm working on has the cast or what ever it is chrome piece. It of course is pitted badly. I could sent it off to re chrome but since the molding on the top of the door by the window is stainless thought the one from the 52 would match best. If can figure out how to remove them without damage. I have another parts car that has them removed but the vent windows remain in place but the chrome pieces are gone so can't see how they were mounted. I evidently have a real 53 fetish I have 7 and one 52
