Turbo 400, 2.75 first gear set, 2.73-3.08 rear end.. Hurst Autostick I shifter.. Put a full manual valve body in it and have the best of both worlds..

All great info, thanks! This why I love this board!
Will the trans side mounts work better than the cross member? I figured I’d have to add something somewhere.

If you use bell housing mounts you still need a cross member for the tailshaft mount ,if you use a cross member for the tailshaft mount , you still need bell housing mounts , unless you put in engine side mounts & negate the front motor mounts ..

Where did the transmissions break/crack? I ask because I broke a TH350-well cracked- when pulling the engine from a PU with my forklift, I was ***ured all bolts were out-seems one wasn't. Took a lot of yanking and janking to here that "pop", when the bell cracked.

I've never run anything with front mounts and tail mounts, never seemed like a good idea, but have heard of issues/failures like you have fixed, but wondering what needed to be fixed?

In my case is was an easy fix, I had an empty TH350 I took over to a better welding buddy than myself, my guess is he bolted them together and welded up the crack in the BH portion.

This is the kit to use
    https://www.performanceonline.com/1955-57-Chevy-Belair-Turbo-Transmission-Side-Mount-Conversion-Kit/
The upper bracket bolts to the bellhousing bolts.
The lower bracket bolts to the original frame horns, and it uses rubber biscuits to load bear weight.

You will still need a rear trans crossmember.

To be honest ^^^ this is the wrong way to go about it [only do this with a 265 or '57 vintage 283 with no bosses on the block for side mounts]

Because you need to add a rear crossmember, you might as well add side mounts while you're at it [the 350 already has side mount bosses on the block]
This gives you the luxury of moving the engine slightly further forward if you run an HEI.
And you can also cut the rear mount frame horns off and run headers.
Here is a front and rear mount kit for your engine/trans combo
    https://www.performanceonline.com/1...Engine-and-Transmission-Mount-Kit-TCM5557-E1/
So this combo is actually $5-82 cheaper than piecing together the other 2 kits

You can pull the engine and trans together in a 57 without removing the hood or grill [only remove the radiator support panel]
We get zero paint chips doing it this way, but always get chips when re-installing the hood.

I recently removed the Powerglide out of my 57 and installed at rebuilt 700R4. It was a tight fit but it went in without issue. I am happy with it so far the car has about 500 miles on it.

BTW, the biggest pain with the 700R4 was adjusting the TV cable. It took a while but it shifts great.
