Hey H.A.M.B.ers need some help with some Halibrand wheels. Here’s what I have
    18x7 w/ 4 3/4 back space 6x5 bolt pattern
Two piece rotor, hub same bolt pattern, cover and knock off.
Seems like the rotors and hub pieces are for front?? Wheels then are rears??
Any ideas on calipers for rotors?
Also any idea what years these might have been on?
Some rad wheels.. not sure if I’m going to run them or??
    Here are a few pics
    Thanks guys 775-500-1932

Are they tapered hubs? If they are, they are sprint car or champ car rear hubs. If they have bearing races, they are for the front. They probably would have used Hallibrand calipers. I just read that they are 18 in, might be old Indy car wheels. Most of what we ran on sprints were 16 inch.

No help on the calipers, but they are neat! If I’d have to guess, I would say Indy style, from late 50’s?

Halibrand moved from Culver City to Torrance in 1963.

  5. Those are 6 pin knock off wheels. They would have been run on an Indy car or perhaps a lakes racer.

They do not use lug nuts the spinner holds them on and the size you stated would have been the size used on the front on an Indy roadster.

as jaracer said ,if the inside of the hubs are tapered with a keyway, they are rears.Halibrand calipers were most commonly used, but had a few with Airharts.Yes, the 18 inch wheel were probably Indy roadster stuff-the ran the big 18's until about 62-63.Wheels themselves a worth more to a restorer than to use them on the street.

  9. The wheels appear to have the hat cast in the wheel so they may slide on the hub and only need the spinner to secure it. Are the hubs and spinners left and right hand? I would say the wheel could be front or rear requiring axle ends with the flat and the threaded hub to be used on the rear. These would predate the "modern" wide Indy tires and may have been rears and used with a slightly narrower front wheel. Is the 6 hole pattern the large Sprint car diameter? I think the proper 1/2 treaded tires for that era have been repopped recently. That's my educated guess. Guffey on here will know a lot more than I do...that's for sure.

yea-you're right, the wheels have the pressure plates cast in,didn't look that close to start with-roadsters stuck with the big dia. wheels until the rear engine cars on their 15 inch wheels started to get fast-Foyt couldn't get Firestone to give him some 15" tires for his roadster,so he showed up with a set of 15" Goodyear tires made for stock cars and went faster than the roadsters had run before! And the Indy tire wars were on!!
