Would love to see some footage of those running, so cool. Are they run on a tether? I've got a COX tether boat that I've had since the late '70s not nearly as cool as these though.
100mph on a handbuild model boat. DAMN! 100 on the water is smokin fast, especially for those tiny things
These are beautiful, and the radial is a wonderful engineering example. I dig the photographs as well, the "sailor" is priceless...
The Builder Ed Kalfus was an engineer at the Boughs Machine company in Poughkeepsie New York Ed built many boats and motors from 1936 to 1955 I have only this one as raced. Have not found any more. Please if you see any in your travels contact me. Merry Hollidays!!
The urban legend on this boat is: Zelda pictured and Mike got in an argument about time spent "playing" with the boats and destroyed Miss Detroit.
The urban legend is: Mike the builder and Zelda got into a argument about time spent "playing" with the little boats Someone destroyed Miss Detroit with a baseball bat. I hope thats not true.
Yes, A line from a pool 52.5' long 4 laps is a race. one at a time for speed. 3 class of boats 10 20 30 CC motors.
I've got a toy boat that was my dad's in the 50s. Has a little gas motor like this on it. I'll add some pics of the actual boat after work. It's not a tether, you just put the motor where you want and it runs in circles until it runs out of gas, or you can run it straight line to a buddy. Pretty cool old toy. I've got the original boxes and paperwork for the boat and motor!
That's too funny. There's a beautiful vintage Martin guitar for sale online right now that has hammer holes all through the top, from the guys girlfriend after he dumped her. Guess he made the right decision to be rid of her! Hell hath no fury, eh?
There is/was an area of The LA County Fair Grounds by the mega slide that looked like an old pond,, but seeing this makes me think it was an miniature boat race 'lake'.
Not a racing boat. But one I bought from the original owner and builder. He said that he built it while stationed in Korea in the 50's. It's GAS powered. Very detailed, and even has a bilge pump. I found it in his basement years ago. I did need to do a restoration on it. Ron.... Sent from my SM-G920P using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Early 3 point Hydro... My late Father and I were into R/C Boats and various Model Planes for years. Dad started in the 50's as a teenager and continued with both until his early 80's. He held a few NZ Records too.
