I would use them. I would first have to hear them on my big block. If they sound ok, I'd wire wheel them clean and paint them the same color as the Porter or Smitty....

I've noticed that mufflers need to be run a few thousand miles before you really know what they will sound like. My 17749 Hemi Turbos sound different now then when I first installed them. They sound like a Chris Craft ski boat when cruising at 35-40 mph but when you drop the hammer and send 454 cubes through them, they really come to life!!

  2. Oh, I don't think these are fit for a big block as is. The exit tube is maybe 1.75" though the cone could be cut and fit to anything from 1.5" up. I would think you'd end up with pressure built up in that big chamber if you didn't cut the end out and/or swap on a larger OD tube.

Yeah, I'm thinking back in the day, you bought them like yours and then added the tubes/flanges to fit your engine's configuration.
Seems something similar shows up on vintage midgets. Karl-orr-speed-shop-vintage-race-car.jpg

  5. I'm glad you showed that because I've made cones in my head that way over the years.

I had a set of un-baffled megaphones on a Triumph Thunderbird Bobber in my misspent youth. They were unbelievably loud!
