I have four rims with tires on them that were originally on my 1945 1/2 ton Chevy Pickup that did not fit properly, so I bought all new rims and tires. My question is are the 3/4 ton pickups wheel stud size larger than the 1/2 ton pickups? The dimensions of these original rims are: . Six Lug . lug pattern 5.5" . Center Bore 3 5/8" . Stud/Lug diameter 1/2" . Rim Width 5.5" . Backspacing 3 3/4" . Offset 1 3/4"
Explain not fitting properly. I/e not sitting flush against hubs, both front and rear not fitting and why?
Thanks for replying! The wheel rims do not sit totally flat up against the wheel hubs, and the wheel studs are not directly centered in the stud opening. The wheel nut taper will not center in the opening when securing the nuts. The original owner of the truck did not know what they fit since they are not the proper fit for the 1945 half ton Chevy pickup. Those rims were originally installed apparently to just hold up the ch***is until the right ones were installed.
3/4 ton trucks use 8 lug wheels. They use 1/2 studs vs. 7/16'' used on 1/2 ton. Now, take pictures of the hubs, drums, & all the wheels that are giving you trouble, then post them - we'll figure it out. You probably have wheels from a newer "metric" vehicle.
Do you have a pic ? Are they loose on the hub? If the wheel is loose on the hub it can cause the studs to not line up on the lug nuts look up hub centric spacers. A pic would really help with what your up against. And don’t get this place going with the whole wheel , rim, tire, “ traction installation adapter nonsense!!
Ford used a 6 lug wheel on a full floating axle, in the late 50’s/early 60’s as I recall. Are they 17.5 inch by chance? It’s what I remember them being
Pretty sure. Well, let me clarify. When cleaning my dads property there was a ch***is with a floating rear, 6 lug I’m darn near sure I recall that. The wheels and hubs (front did not have floating hubs as I recall) were painted this faded yellow. Now about 300 yards away up by the shop, sits a Ford 8 foot box we’d put pipe, iron, etc in. Painted the same faded yellow. That led me to FTE and I asked some questions, what I had was Ford ch***is. Now this was over 10 years ago, but I’m pretty sure they were 6 lug, I’d have probably kept the wheels had they’d been 5 lug. For sure they were not 8 lug
. But the light duty (ie 1 ton) 6 lug pattern used by Ford, IH, Studebaker and Dodge is 6 on 7.25" no where near the 6 on 5.5" used by GM
I gotcha, like I said, it was 10 or so years ago. Never checked BC, but hey. At least I remembered them being 6 hole. So I have that going for me, which is nice
Well lets add to the confusion! The 6 lug wheels on a mid 90s Dakota at 6 on 4 1/2 bolt circle. Did GM use those stud rivets on the drum face like several other manufacturers did? The original wheels had holes or divots for the rivets, but modern wheels are designed for flat drums, if the newer wheels are against the rivets, it can't sit tight against the drum. Gene
