Well I finally got it home to start. Heard through a old hot rodder that there was a older gentlemen that was having a hard time finding somoene that would build this car for him. Well about two weeks ago I get in touch with this fellow and work out some times to come look at it. I finally got to look at it and wow is all I can say. A complete original 1930 Ford Model A Coupe that I get to have my way with. We worked up a contract and it is a done deal. He said build it however you like, whatever motor, etc. All he cares is that it cranks up and runs good and it is a hot rod. He even wants to chop it too. Freshen up the paint etc. Finally got it home to start yesterday. I guess I will work on this in my other spare time.

Man ... you're lucky. My Aunt and Uncle were given an all-original 1931 Ford coupe by her father, and that car just sits... and sits... and gets dusty... and sits some more. The fenders are off sittin' in the back and they haven't cranked that puppy over for god knows how long. I've approached them several times, even suggested that they do something with it, or just let me do something with it, but no luck.
Glad to hear someone has better sense to let that machine see it's full glory.

...maybe I should just take it? I mean, the car would probably be finished before they noticed it was missing...

You need to keep the horn and re-use the wheels with it chopped and channeled.

I know it isn't mine, and that there are a lot of original Model A's still out there, But, it is still a shame to cut up an original as nice as that. In my opinion I would restore it to better than show room. I didn't buy a 31 Vicky body shell that had just been reconditioned ($2000) just because I was hunting for a hotrod body.If I had the money I would have bought it too, just to restore. Anyway have fun with the build.

I know I know it ****s to mess up something so good but in the same sentence i would love to start with a great body first. The owner is pushing 70 years old and wants a hot rod. Money is no option to him and he could care less about it being perfect. I mean who really wants a stocker. He knows it is good and even gave me the option to find a trade for him. He has offered it for sale or trade for something different that he could build that was not so much stock or original.

Plans are to put a new dropped axle front end under it. He wants Disc brakes on front which is fine especially since it will have fenders, Drop
in a little 283 or a 327 V8, 32 style gas tank, reversed eye springs front and rear, 9" ford under the rear with Pete and Jake style ladder bars. He does want AC though

He wants to keep all the interior, exterior, stock appearing. It will keep the stock grill shell, roff insert, fenders, but will remove the bumpers and install nerfs on the front. Dont really know what wheels yet but I prefer some Chrome 40's. We will see though. He really dont care but he also dont know much about traditional. Hopefully I can lean him towards more older stuff. I am just excited to finally work with something so clean. I am gonna do my best to stear him into making this Cool as can be but it is a business and you got to keep the customers happy too. We will see though

Cut it up! My shoebox was a 64,ooo mile car when we chopped it. It makes for a nicer car getting one that has not been previously "fooled" with. You Dirty's have/get all the cool stuff. What do I have to do to be a Dirty?

Hot rod it and don't look back. I'd sure like to meet the old guy, there aren't many around who have that sort of at***ude. Just get it done so he can enjoy it for the time he has left. No telling but he may even make provisions for you to have first dibs on it in the event of his p***ing.
Be sure to post pictures of the build and if possible get a picture of the owner to post.

Rusty. That sound perfect. Fords in the front, Mercs in the rear. Exactly how I would do one. I'll be keeping an eye on this one, so be sure to post updates.

There's a guy around 80 years old here who had a number of show-winning Model A's. These were "senior" award-winning cars at national meets. He had them for sale for because he was getting older and couldn't enjoy them as much.

I teased him and told him I had a friend who wanted to buy one, chop it, and build a hot rod out of it. His reply to me was, "I don't care if he burns it as long as he pays me what I asking."

what can you really do with a stock restored model a anyway? they're not fast enough to be safe on todays highways. so you're stuck storing it, and trailering it to parades and car shows. doesn't sound like much fun to me. CUT IT UP!!
