Hello everyone and a happy new year! Iam located in europe so its not so easy to built a hotrod. USA Ford parts are not easy and cheap to find. Iam collecting parts now and then we can build. Locally i can buy a 64 Ford Galaxi frame with ***le, is this frame useable to build an traditional looking (1930-1935) Hotrod ? I have a 52 flathead engine and gearbox and 1930-1940's Ford cabs and other sheet metal is sometimes for sale in Europe.
Oddly enough I have a 60 frame sitting in the back yard; a more difficult frame to adapt to any kind of hot rod I could not imagine. It's called a "cowbelly" frame because it arches outward around the p***enger compartment. They have very long rear leaf springs and you might be able to shorten it by about a foot before you run into the springs. The engine area is actually pretty versatile but you might have difficulty getting a flathead to set in place. Short answer? No, it's not a good hot rod frame.
oke, clear. Leave the galaxi frame by its owner. Them we go further looking for a complete Ford from the thirties. (i have the engine, so if anyone knows somthing for sale, please let me know, must have a ***le, without that i cant registered here
With the years you mentioned your best and cheapest route would probably be build your own frame. Easy enough to build the model A frame.
Keep you eyes on the cl***ifieds - sometimes rolling Model A frames with ***les do come up BUT they sell quickly.
If you were building a Roth style custom you could use it; you'd be shortening it I would think, so getting rid of the side rail would let you go straight back from the curve along the bottom of the front section to the forward rear spring pocket. Use Mustang rear springs and shorten the rear overhang by a lot.
