  1. Well finally got the rims and tires changed out. I'm not too sure about it but I will run them for a while and see how I feel.

Before: 15x8 American Racing Torq Thrust D's... newer style.

    After: 14x7 reversed tru spokes.

Whaddaya think? If I don't like them I'll look at getting chrome reversed steelies with WWW's.

That is a great looking car.The TTD's looks good...I'm on the fence on your wires, but if you decided to go for chrome reverse, I'd keep the skinny whites.

I like the Americans, but either way it's a cool car.

  4. I just saw your car at the Carnival...looked great, but I think the spokes look better. Makes your car look older :D

I gotta go with the TT's. Chromed steelies would look good too. Sorry, don't like the wires.

Don't get me wrong I love TT d's on anything. I just like the pizzaz (is it ok to say that here) of the wires on a jumbo poncho drop top. High line cars look out of place w/ muscle car wheels to me, but that's me. :)

...you're asking for opinions...lose the 5 spokes. They scream '60's, and your cars' stance says '50's. Lose the wires and narrow WW tires...they don't do anything for the great lines of your ride...chrome reverse and WWW BIAS-PLY tires will set your ride off bigtime...2 3/4" - 3" whitewall...the pic is of a 32, but visualize the wheels and tires on your car....damn...

    3WLARRY is on the money.

  18. I say the TTD's for now, but chrome steelies with spiders, or astro supremes would also be nice wrapped in a skinny white wall.

you could just lie and say they are skylark wires and few would know the difference.;) icing on the cake would be adapting a set of skylark knockoffs to the tru-spokes.

I'm with 3WLARRY on this one. When I first looked at your pics it was hard to see much in the wheel well area and with the dark color of the car the tires and paint all blended in. A set of chrome wheels with spiders and WWW tires will really lift that area of your car and are more suited to a late 50's car. Then with your Impala side trim the whole car will get a lift.

I just love your car anyway, those 59 Chevys were the most radical body syle that Chev ever had.

  21. Thanks guys. My thinking is I want to get away from the TTD's because to me they're more of a muscle car thing and they belong on a 69 Camaro, not a 59 Impala. The HAMB has shown me the error of my ways. I still have the engine to back up the Impala... but it's just not a muscle car. So I was hoping to go with more of a cruiser look. I got the tru spokes for $300 so I didn't lose too much. I was thinking it looks a little too... ahhhhh... how do I be PC about this... Mexicanish. I was hoping it would lean more towards an early 60's style and I'm 50/50 about it. If I decide I don't want these, i will sell them and go look for WWW's with reverse steelies. There's a HAMBer here with a silver 60 Impala and I love how that turned out. The only thing I want different is OEM style and not smoothies. Look at what he did.

We will see. Thanks again for your input.

3w Larry is on the right track. How about some superior 5 spokes with repro U.S. Royal Master tires. It would give it that early sixties look. The wires would also look good with the Royal Masters. Be sure to post pictures if you change it. Cool car!!!

Check out my Avatar, dude! the WW's & chromies are the ONLY way to go on that sweet ride!

  25. The Americans, hands down.

    Spokes are for slow pokes.

Looks terrible. Car is now permanently defiled. Ship out of state quickly-say, to Illinois. I'll hide it and spare you, and it, the shame.:D

I dislike any wire wheels except early Ford wires, so my vote is the torque thrusts look better. However, as to your other idea of chrome steelies, I think Astros with skinny whites would look even better than chrome steelies. Not that chrome steeilies are bad, ran them on a couple cars I have had, but Astros just look so right on the 59-60 Chevys.

Chrome steel wheels with blackwalls, dual pinner whites, or red lines for a "1962 custom" look. Think American Graffiti.

In 1964, my parents were youth counselors at our church, and they took the youth to the lake one Saturday. For the trip back home, I was invited to ride with the Weber twins, who had a black 59 Impala 2 dr hdtp with red interior.

On the way back, a brand new 64 Chevelle SS wanted to race, so whichever twin was driving took off and beat the Chevelle.

They ran black wheels with baby moons and narrow whitewalls.

Another guy in our church ran black wheels and baby moons with narrow whitewalls in his gold 62 Impala 2 dr hdtp.

A guy up the street from us had a red 57 Chevy with black wheels, baby moons and narrow whitewalls.

Another guy up the street had a deeply channeled 30 A coupe, no fenders, ran blackwall tires, black wheels, with baby moons.

In fact, a heck of a lot of people ran black wheels with baby moons in the early sixties.

I know, 'cause I was there.

As far as your 59 ragtop (beautiful car) run what YOU like. I like both the TT and the wires. My 56 Nomad has had both, as well as wide whites with red wheels and Chevy dog dish hubcaps. Depends on what mood I'm in.
