Does anyone know if the 1950 lincoln cosmopolitan gas tank is used on any other Ford cars of the same year? Thanks
Ford and Lincoln tanks are a total different unit. If your trying to replace the tank in a 50 Lincoln a 50 Mercury tank might do the job. I have bought several units from them over the years, they also can tell you if the Lincoln tank is the same as the Merc but as listed it don't include Lincoln. I would just call them and ask if this is in fact what your trying to do. Tanks inc. (877) 596-3842
Someone might have a Hollanders that covers 1950. Mine doesn't go back that far. Mac's shows a tank for a 50 Mercury but says nothing about Lincoln. That means that other sources probably have a similar tank. Gas Tank - 20 Gallon - Die-Stamped Steel - Mercury Except Station Wagon (macsautoparts.com)
The 'base' Lincoln shared the same body shell from the firewall back with the Mercury, but the Cosmopolitan was unlike any other Ford product and larger so I suspect it used a different tank also.
Bob Drake has a good selection of tanks. If you have the dimensions and filler neck location maybe another model tank can be adapted to fit. A one off custom tank will be pricey.
