Ran across a good deal on a completely bone stock, mostly original, super nice 50 pontiac 2dr coupe. It is almost too nice to cut up but if I buy it I can't leave it stock. Curious if anyone has any pics of one with a 50-60's custom treatment. Here is a pic of the actual car, and a quicky MS paint lowering job. It looks pretty damn good just stock and lowered
No pics, but pretty much anything that can be done to 49-52 Chev would also look good on a Pontiac. Btw looks like sedan to me...
Do a search for the Don Roach Pontiac done by the Ayala brothers, one of the best custom pontiacs. This is from Rikster's site http://public.fotki.com/Rikster/11_...customs/don_roach_49_pontia/ayalapontiac.html s.
DirtyDan, Can't go wrong with that Pontiac, After you buy it! PM me if you need parts, or just reference info...I'm currently working on kustomizing one of mine
It seems like a pretty good deal to me... It is local, 78k orig miles, straight 8, auto trans, new stock interior, new bias WWW's, runs, drives and looks good for under 7g... plus it has a pretty decent black paint job. I havent done much research on these cars to know what they are bringing, but anything in the $6-7k range that is all solid steel and looks, runs, and drives good seems like a bargain.
DirtyDan, Sounds like a fair price , if the restoration was done by a pro. No harm in offering less... Double check both the underside and inside of the floorboards, trunk and fenders. I've seen and heard of plenty of these so called solid cars having fiber-gl***, bondo or even worst bad patch welds. If everything checks out A-Okay, buy it and get to work on making it the car you'll be proud to drive. Post pictures of you're progress and let me know if I can be of any ***istance...
Dan, these cars need only dual pipes and lowering, maybe a one piece Olds windshield. It's amazing how solidly built they are compared to a Chevy of the same year. If it was in dead storage for years, check the water distribution tube from the water pump back to the rear of the engine - they tend to rot away causing all the coolant to pump out on the ground. Your '50 is a 2 door sedan, by the way, not a coupe.
Thank's for the tips... I'm going to check it out this weekend. The guy sent me about 50 pics of the car, and they all look good. I realize now it is a 2dr Sedan... Looked up some pics of coupes and now I see the difference.
i've got a 4 door myself. it was bad in the front floors and half ****ty in the rockers. everything else is really pretty good. it was stored since 74 or so... the water pump on these cars are interesting. if memory serves, 51s and later had a more modern style lubrication system for the bearing in it... earlier cars had a fill hole for motor oil for it and a drain hole. you were supposed to cork the drain hole and fill it up, then let it drain out and it was good for a while. wacky.
Nice lookin' old ride Dan, Good Luck on it. NADA average is around $6300 on it, so go from that. IMHO, it won't need anything done but a little slammin'! That does wonders for the old girls. I added rear air shocks and an on board pump to my '55, too, and I can get 'er in the weeds when I'm parked.
