Valve seals or piston rings ford 223??

    normally if your engine smoke a bit until it warms up and subsides. its the the valve seals. if it's the rings it'll you'll see smoke pretty much all the time and heavier on acceleration. best thing to do is a compression check.

    In some cases it may be worn valve guides, rings or both. If the motor is extremely grungy it may have have a buildup around the rings that may free up with some additive and fresh oil and let the rings expand enough to seal somewhat.
    You did a compression test? If so share your findings.

    Have you ran it hot or did it just start to smoke? All cylinders should be within 10 percent of each other. I've seen worse readings on running engines but the fact that you already did rings makes me wonder if you have too much wear in the cylinders. Did you do a compression test when the rings were first installed?

    Very possible you have a broken oil ring or 2, or the rings have all lined up on the gap.
