Just wondering if anyone knows whether or not 15x10''s will fit in the stock well on an early 60's Impala.
The wheels themselves might, but getting tires on them is another story. What size tires did you want to run? and what's the backspacing on the wheels you have in mind?
Not sure really at this point. I would like the wider rear with a slightly narrower front. Most wheels I have seen so far that size are from 3-5 inches backspace. You have an impala don't you squirrel? What is the largest you have had on yours if anything other than stock?
Yes, it can be done. My brother just sold his '60 elco. It had 18"x10"s on the back. Stock wells, quarters and diff. The trick is when you double jack it don't let the rearend down too far. Otherwise the hub moves too close to the front of the opening to get the wheel/tire in. You can PM him for details like backspace & what not. Karls Speed & Kustom
My car is a 61, the wheel opening is shaped quite a bit different than the 63. I have some slicks on the back of my car right now, but they're on narrow rims. There's a lot of room under there, you'll need to measure carefully to squeeze in big tires. I really don't like running more than a 275 width tire, seems that wider can cause issues with driving in the rain. So, 8 or 8.5s are all I need.
Big differance between 60 and 63. I'd try it on mine for you, but right now the body is off the frame. I should be setting it back on next week to fit it for wheels. I can stick a wheel on and let you know. The plan for this one is 18X8.5. It's getting bagged so I'm sure 10's won't work on mine.
Hey just saw you are in Spokane. We moved out here to TN from south of Missoula. Used to drive through Spokane to see my Mom down in Kennewick. My brother-in-law just moved his practice up there. If you ever need cut on, let me know. Maybe I can get you a discount! Acutally, we maybe moving up there to the Idaho side of Spokane sometime in the next year or two. Maybe we'll see you around. Hope your Impala is done before then. ****, what am I saying... I hope my Impala is done before then!
