Is there a Frankland quick change that lets v8 ford banjo bells bolt right up to it. Or do you always have to use adapters.

Also what Frankland QC number should I be looking for if I come across one. An old speed shop has a stack of them but don’t know if they are all from sprint cars.

I believe all v8 Ford banjo bells require an adapter to use with the Champ style Quickchange. Winters makes and adapter as does Quickchange Exchange here on the HAMB. He is in MI. I would search for a Halibrand 201 or 301 rather than the Franklin. It doesn't matter what the center section was used for as you can use the housing in any application.

Will the 3/4 ton truck bell bolt on without an adapter?

This is an early Frankland built using a V8 Ford center. DSC03643-001.JPG

As Blake 27 showed above Frankland did indeed make a V8 based rear end. I'm not sure of the time frame, but they were early. As far as I know, they were welded units made from Ford banjos.

Pewsplace is also correct in saying that there were no direct bolt up bells from the large truck based rears to the passenger car trumpets. Winters adapter plates as shown in his first picture, fit 11 bolt center sections. Not easily adaptable unless you use a specific Winters differential.

Halibrand made the adapter plates in both 11 and 12 bolt 3/4 ton center sections. Halibrand made centers in both 11 and 12 bolt. My reproduction plates are also available in both configurations.

Frankland 3/4 ton center sections are all 11 bolt just like the original Ford truck. (although I seem to remember that Frankland did make some 12 bolt bells to fit other manufacturers centers).

The downside of the adapter side plates is that they will only work with narrowed differentials, and only certain differentials can be narrowed. The Frankland (and most other current centers) are 3 3/4" wide while the Halibrand and a few older designs are 4 3/8" wide. This means that you have to cut the differential more to use the narrower centers.

Glad to answer questions here, but if you need to purchase anything, please send me a conversation (private message).

Thanks for the information everyone. And yes ideally I want a halibrand 201 or even a re pop from winters or rodsville. Maybe they’re will diamond in the rough and a halibrand will be sitting there hahah.
