Hey folks restoring a 57 Thunderbird E code and need a Borg Warner T85C-1 transmission for it. Anybody know where I might find that transmission?
I have a buddy, who's brother not long ago restored one. I will check with him. Will report back. Gene.
I think I have a 1957 Ford 3 speed transmission that goes in a 1957 Super Charged Ford. I don't really know for sure. Maybe this is the same transmission for your car. Over 30 years ago I bought about 30 supposedly (maybe not) rebuilt overdrive and automatic transmissions for 50's cars. There was one 3 speed standard in the lot and it was stated that it fit a 1957 Super Charged Ford. Do you know how to identify a T85C-1 transmission as I sure don't. I can try to find the one I have and get some pictures of it if you think it might be the correct one. Dave
If you're looking for a 'numbers-matching' trans with correct date codes, you may have to do some serious scouring to find one. If that's not critical, Ford used variations of this trans all the way up to '63 behind various motors.
Thanks Actually tried to join y-blocks and it gives me a response that that function has been disabled....
Thanks Dave, I actually came across one and bought it. Good news is it is the right transmission bad news is the overdrive portion is smoked. I was wondering if you just removed the planetary gear out of it that it would run like a regular transmission. Anyone know if that works?
There was a guy selling some t-85 s on here over the summer... I'll look and if I find him i'll post it up
Finally checked with my buddy...he sold everything he had left to a guy in the Thunderbird club. Sorry.
