Well, this sucks. I'm not making it to Bonneville. Circumstances have forced me to make a bit of a life-adjustment. I got laid off from my day gig at Verizon/MCI/Worldcom or who ever they are now. More and more jobs going overseas, bastards. So with that and shagging the rear end in the BelAir, and the brakes haven't been the same since I did a panic stop some weeks ago when some fucker changed lanes right off my front bumper and slammed on the brakes to make an illegal u-turn (I wound up in the grass before I got stopped). The cocksucker was nice enough to wave at me as I was under the car surveying damage, he was lucky I was more concerned about the car and how much upholstery was protuding from my butt than I was about him. Anyway, I'm doing various things now starting to make some money, picking up more bar work. Trading labor building a new bar for a % ownership and have acquired a lowered S-10 pickup from my uncle's lot in Arkansas. Actually pretty happy with life out from under the coporate thumb, working my ass off and loving it - but alas, no salt for me this year. Maybe I'll fill a sand box up with salt up get some wind-up cars. Mahalo
...I hear ya bubba...I ain't goin' either... the coupe no go yet...if there's anything I can help you with, let me know...Owasso ain't that far away...
Thanks Larry. Sorry to hear about the coupe. Hopefully the new bar will make scads of money and I won't be w/o the BelAir that long, but of course we're planning on starting construction on another bar right after this place is open. But..... buddy of mine said something about a T bucket body the other day and I have the 283 I pulled out of the BA Next year we'll have to caravan to B-ville.
yeah, freaking India is taking all the jobs away, i'm kinda pissed at my cousin who holds a high up position in a corporation that sells business software to companies because his company does this. He actually goes to India to oversee this activity, so while he's got a manhattan apartment and all the goodies, alot of other guys are loosing they're jobs over this? fucking sucks man. i aint part of that, I'm just a poor school teacher making my contribution to society i guess
Well my friend - I'm pretty sure they're not exporting teaching or bartending jobs to India Yeah - I'd like to have a few minutes alone with some high ranking corporate CEO's to "explain" how the people feel about the way they do business.
yep, and speaking of the devil, my uncle (the father of this cousin of mine) comes over to brag about how he's going to Laguna Beach House of his boss for travel. LOL, I think he spends more on parking in NY city than I make... but I don't care...
I'm with you brother... I'm not going to make it to Bonneville this year either. I had everything lined up back in January, but my wife had a great job opportunity down here in Austin so we moved. I just started a new job a couple of weeks ago and they are shipping me up to Alaska for some OTJ which will be during Speed Week. I've been kinda depressed- I can't look at the HAMB too long before I start to think about it. There's always next year... I guess. F*ck telecom- the company I just left recently layed off a bunch of people- it has been this way since I started in the industry. Ups and downs, buy outs, and layoffs....your better off. My career is taking a new direction too.
I'm feel ya - I've been in telecom for 11-12 years, only been laid off twice somehow. I did sit at the same desk thru three different buy-outs. My goal now is to never go back to Corporate America. I'm living on my own terms. I'd say I was living by my wits but I don't want everybody worried I'm going to starve. Thinking I may be able to get some side work lined up with an old buddy that builds Cobra replicas when I'm not doing bar construction or bartending. That's me - back in the saddle! Hope the new job works well for you, you may be missing Bonneville, but I thing getting sent to Alaska for a while would be pretty cool.
