Jim Hurtubise and his ever-present German Shepherd, Prince at Indianapolis in 1961. Prince was with Herk just about everywhere he went. Even when he was traveling across the country racing IMCA sprint cars with Parnelli, Jack Rounds, and Don Shepherd, Prince would often go along. Herk put this car on the outside of row one, grabbed the lead at the start, and led 35 laps before his first pitstop. The car broke later.
Fast action on the Nutley, NJ, high bank velodrome in 1938! Duane Carter in the #18 has it sideways, as Paul Russo goes high on the dangerous board track. Look how close the fans were to the action! Bruce Craig photo from the Ron Hedendorf collection.
