Going to change the Exhaust Tips for my 49' Mercury. I want to enhance the look of of the Lead Sled. Right now I am leaning toward angle cut tips. What do you suggest?
Not mine, but kinda cool?https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/pair-of-1950s-custom-car-tru-tips-exhaust-tips-pict-inside-150.923374/#post-13905810
Oval tip would look great Chevy used a cast aluminum oval top in the 90’s or early 2000’s on there supercharged fwd cars I think would look neat.
No lie there! My last Bandit TA was a 10.5:1 CR 400, TA's have to have those dual splitters sticking out of the quarters. I pulled into a local Wednesday night cruise-in on dirt and grass and at an idle blew crap all over everyone's cars. I was embarrassed and bought a few guys a cold one for my dumbasstivity. No more turn downs for me, i cant afford to keep buying the drinks.
I love the look of fishtail exhaust tips. I hunted for some for the wagon in my avatar, but could only find them to suit peashooter pipe diameter. The wagon runs a 327, with dual 2.5" pipes. Stumbled across the fishtails below from Vance and Hines. https://products.vanceandhines.com/store/harley/16775/ They suit a 2.5" pipe... just. Needed a very slight nudge with the pipe expander to get them in. Pricey, but they suit the car. Cheers, Harv
I put 2.250" SS bells on my truck The car is OT but I like these too, on my 442. They are belled and baloney cut. Pypes sells them in SS (factory are chrome) and they come in various dimeters now. If the truck had an Olds motor I would have used them.
Cole made some of the best from stainless tubing and rod. H had a tech post here years ago. The bell is actually rod bent around the tube, face welled and shaped.
I too am not a fan of turndowns. First thing I thought of, is dirt roads and the impending flying dirt/dust. It seems rolled tips are what every kid in high school had that got em from VIP. My vote is for oval. The curves of the Merc are beautiful!
Crappy picture through the window while on the way to the beach a while back. This exhaust outlet one has some sort of door to quiet the exhaust it seems...either that or he backed over the neighbors mail box again.
I’ve been trying to decide what to do with mine too but keep coming back to the ones that were on the car when I bought it and thinking they look pretty good. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Brockman MellowTones with 8" Echo Cans will make that Merc sound like it should IMO. Mine sounds bad ass cool
