I've heard many times to leave the springs off and use a stick; but do the arms (red arrow) themselves need to be in place for the hood hinge to work?

For some reason I have the two spring; but no arms. I plan to use a prop rod anyway.

the "arms" that arrow is pointing at look to be the hinges (?) - nothing to keep the hood attached to cowl

All the parts of the hinge ***embly need to be intact. The hood not only goes up and down but also back. So if I'm reading your post correctly you need to find two hinges?

I do have the hinges 16797 that bolt to the cowl with the two arms that attach to the hood; I don't have the spring ***ist arms 16783 which the red arrow points to in the picture.

So besides the two arms on the 16797 hinge ***emblies, your saying the 16783 support even with the spring removed has to be in place?

  6. I used ‘Hyde Hood Holder’ and all I have is the 16797 cowl bracket that the hood attaches to on each side. The hood holder will bolt to the driver side cowl bracket in the bottom hole- the same hole on the p***enger side is not used - I trimmed off the lower part of the p***enger side to clean it up and make it look like it wasn’t missing something.

Thanks for all the info. The installed picture of the Speedway kit looks like the one I saved from Hyde's (?) or someone else's web sight in the past. I'm still leaning toward a prop rod so there is no upward pressure on the hood when closed.

i put the spring ***ist arm on my 39, it works the same exact way. It actually stabilized the entire hood ***embly when shut with the spring arm installed. id use it, It ****s working on these with a hood prop rod over the deep front fenders.

I'll have see if the kid has of those spring things laying around just in case. Taking the hood up to the garage tomorrow and see how it goes. IMG_20210120_133954.jpeg
