I have been thinking about the eventual painting of my truck and it will be a two tone paint job, white over green most likely. I have always seen that it is suggested to have the sealer as close as possible to the base coat color to aid in coverage. So what would be the best sealer for a white over green paint job? I appreciate any info you guys can provide!
I'd use a medium gray or better yet no sealer at all. Depending on the sealer you will need to sand for the second color.
i would use a white sealer, spray the white first, then mask off for the green and use a ground coat under the green,i use a valueshade color for what ever it calls for, this is a Axalta brand of paint. If you use the proper valueshade under the paint it will be all even,no funny spots or light spots, and it will take less coats to cover too. harvey
I would just use whatever color sealer is the closest to what the majority of the paint will be. Most of today’s paints are high enough solids that they cover fairly quick no matter what is under them. I have only used a colored sealer one time...and that was because the owner of the car owned a paint store and supplied it.
Lighter colored sealer, TAMCO paint, 1 or 2 coat coverage, dont have to worry about all that color match sealer junk
Just sound like too much wasted effort to have to mask off for sealer, then mask a second time for paint.
Most of the major automotive paint mfg's all have primer /sealers available . talk to your local qualified paint dealer for the correct method of mixing and application . Having been in the custom paint business for 40+m years , most of the advice that I see is probably just going to get you in trouble . Good luck
I seal right before I spray color, so it is only taped once. the primer under that could be any color. the sealer should be matched to color.
