41 ford Bus cpe /club cpe ID

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Mike Landwehr, Jul 19, 2006.

  1. Mike, long door coupes use 2-door sedan doors. Business coupes use fordor doors. The trunk lids are the same for both bodies, business and big door coupe. The vent windows in 41's are unique to 41's but 42-48 doors will all fit if you don't care whether the vent window is correct or not. Pat.

As already said the blue one is a business cpe the red a club cpe. Doors from 2 dr sedans fit club cpes and 4 dr frts fit business cpes. Truck lids are all the same for 41-48 cpes and converts. Wheelbase is the same for all. Here's a pic of my 41 business cpe

Put the biz coupe body on the Merc frame with '41 Merc front clip. It's a combination that Merc actually offered in '41, but they're very rare. The '41 Merc grille, in my opinion, is the prettiest nose ever for a fat Ford, the longer Merc wheelbase is kinda cool and probably gives you a roomier engine compartment, and the biz coupe is a very pretty shape. No need to chop it.

  8. so the 41 ford cpe body will bolt on to the 41 merc frame ,longer wb and all? I like the merc grille myself -

I'm glad to see the long post on 41 Fords. I have a 41 Business coupe and was having a hard time finding much information about them. I'll be watching this thread with interest. I have lot's of questions but I don't want to hijack the thread.
    Doc

  10. Mike, the coupe body you have will work on the 41 merc ch***is. All the bodys are the same. The only difference being a 41 Merc coupe drip rail doesn't go all the way back to the trunk lid. It just drops straight down behind the rear quarter window. The 41 merc is 116 inch wheelbase as opposed to the 41 ford which is 114". Pat.

You're talking about a sedan coupe or club coupe body. Merc made both kinds of coupes in '41, but the business coupe is really scarce. I have only seen one -- obviously a stock old car, not a modified car -- about 40 years ago.

  12. Doc ,go ahead and hijack I probably do or will have the same question's :D

  13. The wheelbase is made up in the front clip then?

Frt crossmember sits 2" further forward on the Merc frame and the wheelwells on the Merc sit that much further forward. as said before the bodies are the same. A few years ago a local guy around here put a 41 Merc front clip on a 41 Ford and moved the frt x forward.

What are you guys doing about the dash boards in a 41? My guage panel is beyond repair, and I just don't like the way the dash is set up to begin with.
Mike, what are your plans for your car? I'm ***uming you will stick with the I beam on the front, and add a more modern rear end...right?

Everyone is saying short door and long door. Not to sound like an idiot, but how wide is the short door, and how wide is the long door? I've got what I'm pretty sure is a business coupe. There is a package shelf where the back seat should be. Also, the bottom portion of my seat folds up to allow access to the underside of the package shelf as opposed to folding over to get in the back.
Also, my car has a chrome strip that goes along the belt line from front to rear, but does not have the chrome trim around the windows or in the middle of the fenders. What trim package would this be? The car is not equipped with a right side wind shield wiper but was equipped with a radio.

With a 44" door lenght you don't have a business cpe you have a club cpe. A business cpe measures 35 1/2"

Doc, what you're discribing with seat and shelf is a business cpe

  20. my dash is missing as well probably would use the merc one -shaved w sunken SW's,the 41 coupe is still up in the air w a no money issue, but IF I can do some swapping , I plan on a good used 64 394 Olds 4 bbl motor I have adapted to either the gennie ford ****** + RE (I have several 46-8 side shift syc's and probably can find a 3:54 38-48 ford RE someplace) or a 350T and a 65 comet 9",both versions would use either a dropped axle /Xmember or a strt tube axle
I------------I ,This car would be the replacement for the Ply if I have to sell that, this is turning into a great thread :D

    are 41 frames a little differant then 46-48? i can,t find a front shoc
k kit in any of the hot rod catalogs, they always say except 41. was it something to do with the 40 frames. i guess i will use the brackets of a 50 ford truck.

  22. OR a 48 ford car front shock bracket I think they went to tube shocks in 48 in some cars

  23. sorry it took so long stopped out there today for something and made a deal on em , WAY cheap now IF i just had some money ,LOL, but the high point is the place is a word is a bond kinda place, they will be there when I'm ready:D

let me know what you're gonna do with any spare parts from that rotten body on the monte carlo frame...you never know what I'm capable of doing with a body shell and no doors...hehehe...

  25. That one is not too bad either other than the trunk floor, i'd say a good candidate for a tubbed car

you gonna have enough parts there to make 2 cars? one ****ty one for me and a nice one for you? hahaha...I wish I could afford the leftovers you'd have though...but what I really want is that T sedan sitting way in the back up next to the tree...it's missing a door, but I think there's another door out there...wish I knew how much he'd want for that body shell...

Did 48's have tube shocks? I've been kind of racking my brain on how to get shocks on the front end of my 41. The best idea I've had so far is the shock mounts from a 48 to 52 F1.

Here is one example of bad chop, my '47 club coupe. I bought it like this, plans are to restyle the roof. I am also looking 1941 ford front sheetmetal parts for it (A little bit hard because there is not '41 parts in Finland at all). I have original sheetmetal at this moment.

  30. Some one said earlier in this post all the bodies are the same does that mean that a 46-8 ford tudor ch***is will work under the 41 Ford coupe body , found a 46 tudor setup as a rod today ,bodys SHOT
