I saw them at the LA Roadster show. They are 4'' stretched, 2'' wider, and 2'' taller. Nice and spacious. I think they did a really good job with these but they are too expensive and I still prefer the original better. I think they were asking 10,500. Anyone know the companys name?

For that outrageous price I'll pass on the name of the company thanks! (I hope for their sake it's steel!)

Yeah I saw the display, they do look like they did an excellent job on those things. The price was steep but then again you have no rust/fit issues. I'd consider getting one if I wanted to build a Roadster. Sorry, cant help you with the company's name.

Is that the one John Hall from michigan is makin ? Well he is getting the parts stamped in detroit and havin someone weld em up for him. We toured the plant that was doing the stamping and got a first hand look at the cad drawings and the stamping process. I was impressed. It may be pricey but its quality shit.

I was able to sit in one at Pamona and let me tell you if I had 11,000 I would spend it.

Vonmoldy, Maybe a stock T but this one addressses that exact issue. It's a '27 T in design only. It's been made to bolt on a stock (or stock deminsioned) '32 chassis. Jon started with a stock '27 body and cut it apart, "exploded" the pieces and made dies to build the body. This is a first class effort in every respect, it's the only way Jon does anything he's involved in. If you were around one(or sitting in it) and Jon himself took you through a description of what was done to arrive at the finished product you'd be reaching for your wallet before he stopped talking. They aren't for everyone, but Jon wasn't trying to sell one to everyone, it's his vision of what he felt was some of the shortfalls that keep everyone rejecting T's as first choice cars, namely size. Two husky sized fellows can sit in his body and have room to move around very comfortably.
As far as price is concerned you can eat up a million dollars in no time developing a product like this so getting your money back and hopefully making a profit is still the motivating force in most endevors where sales are the end game. Ask the boys from Brookville sometime what they have invested in their product line.
I think you will see a few of them appearing around the country in a short time so there is bound to be a lot of input concerning their acceptance. If I had the bucks there would be one sitting in my shop as we speak.

    Frank,
I 'gota go with you on that, Jon spared no expense to do this one correctly. With every piece of these bodies being stamped, the design & tooling ate that 1M real quick.
Although this isn't something I would build, I've been able to follow this project from the start and it's definately a quality product.

  12. A business associate of Jon's gave me a rundown on these cars(which are spectacular to say the least)and believe me the development costs were staggering. Jon is a perfectionist and they aren't going out the door unless they are dead nuts on. A friend of mine in Florida is coming up to check one out for his next car.

I agree with you as well FAB32. These are perfect. I would love for someone to pay me to build them one. Personally I think the 27 T body is way more stylish than model A's. If I did not have one already or could not find a original body I too would be looking at getting one of these bodys...Best of both worlds IMHO....Lucky

The price of new bodies is CHEAP.....I have been bumping and painting for thirty years......bring me a stock, rusty, dented original to fix, and be ready to spend double that for repairs. Time is money....and MY time ain't cheap.

Way off. The fit and finish is beyond what most people could build, compared to having someone fab to your dimensions.

  19. I took a pic or two at the Autorama, since I have and original 27T body rusted to the the door sills, if for no other reason than to see what it's supposed to look like. They were $9500 at the show.

You can't really see much on this one, because I took it cuz I liked the wheels, but it's on a '32 frame and the front cowl lines up nicely.

If you are going to build a modified or an RPU and you like the clean, uncluttered look of a T body and money isn't an issue, these would be nice.

I think it's Quality Metalcraft? We're doing a motor for the chassis they'll be rollin around on for the next "tour" and I've been in negotiations with a pal of his to do a final build/finish on one for next years Det Autorama. I'm lookin forward to it.

Here is a pic I took at the L.A.Roadster show. They look good with skinny tires! :)

  23. Well, let me tell you guys something about this. Donn Lowe will have one on display at this year's HOTROD-A-RAMA.( He will be a dealer) He says they are awesome. I've seen the stuff that my friend Donn likes and I gotta go with him on this. It all depends on what ya want to start with.

  24. I'm glad they're called XL-27....it would be misleading to suggest that this is anything like a genuine 27 T in anything but vague appearance. I like the back half....not the front half. The cowl looks goofy, especially with the joint along the side, but I suppose it could be welded up.

Oddly enough I took pics of a 27T roadster being widened and a whole new rear section being fabbed just a few weeks ago!

Keith and I sat in the red one and it still was roomy for a couple O' sturdy guys. I liked it and if I didn't already have a 32 roadster and wanted a new body it is a great "be different" car.

Look like a T, fit like a deuce.

If you doon't mind "glass" bodies, take a look at Poli-Forms new stretched '27 bodies, both conventional and lakes modified. they're stretched 3 inches in the body and 2 1/2 inches in the doors. The entire body was re-contoured just enough to maintain all correct body dimensions. Unless you have it sitting next to an original, you can't tell the difference. Dick Williams is using steel reinforcement through out the entire body. I've never seen a glass '27 like it. I've got a lakes modified and am putting it where I took the old rudted steel body off. the chassis and such was originally built in the 60's. I like it..

For me, part of the appeal of '26-'27 roadsters is their compact size and low profile. Their size is what makes them popular on the salt in the Modified Roadster class.

If you don't fit in a T, try a '28-'29, and leave the lines of the body alone. If you want to make it cleaner and more trick, take a look at the mods on Dennis Varni's AMBR-winning '29 roadster.
