I'm planning on changing my rear spring set-up.Got a 9" ford riding the stock 32 member+posi 32 spring w/8 leafs. I see alot of deuces running the model A member +spring. Anyone know how they ride? I'm either doing the A set-up or a 40 ford member +spring. I want to keep the back down and have a decent ride to it.
I'd leave the stock spring or go to a 40. Things won't get better with a Model A. Most guys run the A spring to clear a Quick Change.
I agree. Remember, you'll lose trunk space from the bump in the floor above the spring if you use an "A" spring and crossmember. If you're not using a quick-change, a '40 spring is the way to go. Dave http://www.roadsters.com/
I would think there wouldn't be much difference in ride if you used the Model A, 32, or 40 crossmember/spring. The only thing I think you'd be changing is the height. How much lower do you need to go? Have you removed any leaves? Reversed the eye of the main leaf? I've heard that switching to a 34 rear crossmember will lower the rear an inch or so. Going that route would probably be easier than fitting in a Model A or 40.
40 rear spring requires the rear to be normally about 59 inches overall, or longer, or backspacing on wheel has to be shallow....spring brackets need to be 48 inches apart..
Dude I run an A spring in my 3W. Rides real good and looks killer plus allows me to add a QC down the track. I had the main leafs eyes reversed and run a four leaf setup plus spacers to get the ride height right on. I love the look of the A bone setup on my 32, trunk space with the hump is no big deal, you don't lose that much space and one peek underneath looks oh so right. Rat
I have a model a spring and quickie in two of my cars. Works good, looks traditional and you have some options. I see where Posies offers a model a spring that is 2" lower. That might help in the build process. Honestly, the model a cross member does not intrude that far into the trunk of my 32. One piece of advice is I have old style lever shocks on one car and modern tube shocks on the other, the modern shocks do seem to work better. Chuck
Thanks, any chance of you posting some pics? I'm not worried about floor space,I got a tudor sedan,it would be under the rear seat anyway.I just want the space to keep the car low, have it ride good,or REAL good, and keep it traditional.I like the Idea of doing the A now for a swap to a Quick change later someday.
