    I have a 51 Pontiac Chieftain with a 55 olds 324 and hydramatic.
The tranny has a 16 spline 1 3/8 shaft that sticks out of the housing about 3 inches.
I took the original siezed straight 8 and hydramatic out and the poncho yoke is too small.
Looking for a yoke or complete driveline.
If you have on laying around you want to sell, let me know.
If you know of another yoke that will work please let me know.
I have searched the forum but couldn't find a solid answer.

How easy did that Olds motor go in the Pontiac, years ago I had a wrecked 53 Olds and a 47 Pontiac with a worn out straight 8 and after some observation the olds motor might have bolted in with the rear mounts and only needed a little fabrication for the front. It never happened as I sold the Pontiac and traded the Olds motor for a dirt bike.

I only have worked with Olds hydramatics. The 1941 to 1950 is the small shaft/yoke. In 51 Olds went bigger shaft/yoke, and used until 1956. In 56 there were two Olds A/T, the plain 88 was old hydro, then also the S88-98 had the new Jetaway.

I have no way to look up the other Hydramatic cars; Pont, Cad, Hudson Nash ect., in the first half of the 1950s

  4. If you can find one an early 56 Pontiac yoke will work;I believe it is the same size as the Olds. When the Hydro went out in my 55 Safari I found a replacement trans from an early 56 but the output shaft on the 56 was larger than the 55. Luckily the guy I got the trans from had included the 56 driveshaft which is the same length but uses an entirely different rear U joint. Wound up having the 56 yoke cut off and attached to the 55 shaft.

I found a drive line for a 57 olds on craigslist but just assumed it was for a jetaway and it wouldn't work. Its a 80 mile round trip to go look at it. Anyone know the spline count and diameter on a 57 olds tail shaft?
@ junkyardjeff The motor and tranny have plenty of room but it's not a bolt in. Once I get the drive line sorted ill figure out where to put the mounts.
    Thanks for the replies.

Perhaps check out a yoke for a 55 - 57 Chevy with a PowerGlide, 3 speed stick, or stick OD. They are 16 spline, but I'm not sure of the diameter. If I remember right the same yoke was used in the 1/2 ton Chevy pickups with the 4 speed Hydros.

  7. Perhaps as a last resort you could call NW Transmission in Ohio. They surely can tell you what will fit. I have dealt with them before and they are good with what they do. I usually talk to Rich.

We used to use Olds trans to swap into Chevys because the drive shaft would work but I don't remember the out put shaft sticking out 3". I wonder if the trans has mismatched parts

I went to a drive line shop and they did have a 16 spline for a PG but it was too small.
The wiki page for hydramatic transmission says this :
In the early 1950s various manufacturers without the resources to develop a proprietary automatic transmission bought Hydra-Matics from GM. Users included:

    1951–1957 Hudson1950–1957 Nash 1951–1956 Nash Rambler 1957 Rambler 1958–1960 Rambler American (AT&T associated company fleet units only)1951 Frazer1951–1955 Kaiser 1954–1955 Willys1949–1954 Lincoln

In 1952, Rolls-Royce acquired a license to produce the HydraMatic for Rolls-Royce and Bently automobiles. It continued production until 1967.

The original Hydra-Matic continued to be used in light trucks and other commercial vehicles until 1962.

I would like to thank buddysyard for messaging me with an offer to send this yoke View attachment 3334277
It came today and it is a perfect fit.
What is really cool about the whole thing is he went through the trouble of boxing it up and sending it to me ON HIS DIME.
    Who does that?
    Buddysyard did.
After thanking him for his generosity all he said was : "It was just in his way" and
" that's what people used to do"
    Thanks again buddysyard
You are one cool cat. [emoji106]

It's nice to hear that worked out for you. Still some good people out there. I just went through the same search. Ended up using a common 16 spline chevy yoke and had the machinist open up the minor spline diameter a little. The major spline diameter was the same as the hydo yoke. It took him about 20 minutes. Worked perfect. Also fits 50 Olds standard tailshaft.

I'm close to getting my Hydromatic 4 back from rebuilder, very anxious to get after it. I am concerned about the drive shaft and yoke, not sure it is right one. Appreciate this site lots. This Cameo has a 235 for the power house.
