This reminds me of the story about the farmer who traded his wife for a used outhouse because... Those trucks are all two baggers! They're almost as ugly as the '41- '46 Chevy trucks!
Having owned a '46 with the painted grill, My vote goes to the '46. I realized too late that a '40 front end would probably fit, as the rest seemed the same. It always ran fine untill my boss wiped out 1st gear.
I got a 38 and I think that grill is cool as back side of the pillow. 46 is butt ugly buy you can change that with 40 front end! 40 is a sexy beast. Rod
Have seen some pics of really NICE looking 38-9s here on the HAMB but generally they are butt ugly! like RODMAN says 40 front fenders, hood & grill fit 46-7s so id be all over a nice 46-7 like white on rice.
Just got $37.00 for the remains of a 1947 Pickup, one less to worry about seeing. The 1938 Ford Cab Over is on the top of my Trucks Wanted list!!
I think they are all ugly so please send all of them to my place I take them free of charge but you pay shipping. I have two 46 Merc p/u s and two 47 Fords all projects at this time but when there this ugly someone has to keep them.
All my life I thought the 38/9 and the 46/7s were Very Ugly....then 15 years ago I got a 39.....I have been driving it daily now for 15 years. I get a LOT of people saying they like it. I was real surprised that anyone would like it, I guess it has grown on me. Its not as ugly as it used to be It has 3 deuces and frenched 59 Caddy taillights
And you know, its amazing that for some thing that is so freakin ugly, that they cost so much. 38-9 grills continuously go for 300+ on ebay.
OH i didnt know COEs were included in this one!?!?! 39 COE's ARE THE BEST! after that 37 1/2 tons win hands down. they are kinda like a 35 or 36 but cooler with a V'ed windshield! 40 & 41 are right up there also. i drove a 38 1/2 ton daily for one summer & it even got uglier as i looked at it. the cab is out of proportion or something on those trucks. the grills kick ass though! I HAVE SEEN SOME NICE LOOKING 38-9s but a stock one dosent do it for me.
The 46 Merc PU grilles look good to me. I'd like to put one on my 46 Ford PU to help its looks a bit.
I carried a 39 grill around for a year trying to sell it for 35 bucks. I sold it to a guy that thought he was getting a steal ( a swap meet dealer), he still has it, like 6 years later. I laugh every time I walk by his booth.
I think the 46 ford looks better.heres a link http://www.carnut.com/cgi-bin/02/_image.pl?/show/02/lou/nat186.jpg but there was a cool 47 ford pick up theard ,with the front clip on the back. it looks wicked as a truck box. heres that link http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=122988
...none of them are ugly.....doesn't matter if its stock or modified, I wouldn't say no to one .. ! .. / primerkid
I always thought the 38-39 were the ugliest trucks in the world. Then I found the one in the picture out in the desert here and dug it up and brought it home. After seeing it every day in the yard I now think it is pretty cool . Problem is though, once I get it on the road everyone else will be seeing it for the first time and will of course think it is ugly . Like the one guy said "any old truck is neat". c ya, Sum
Sorry, I've always thought the 38/39s are some of the best looking pickups. I had to be talked into buying my 41. Just check out Dan Collins'. Mike
best description of a 42-47... "looks like a chineese guy ran into a wall at about 110 mph" .......................like the one in my garage. A face only a mother could love If doing a 42-47, for God's sake, leave the original grill please. Seen too many that have been "modified" and look like hammered dog shit on a good day. Low, loose the bumpers. There you have it. 'course that is the basic formula, but it sure works on those trucks.
Ugly? My buddy's ugly truck. I hate it so much I am trying to find someone to trade my pretty 66 for another ugly 39 for myself.
