Looks great so far. I loved the old paint also, but I do have a sweet spot for red & white cars! Also love the two-tone paint of any '56 Chevy Bel-Air, the best factory two-tone IMHO.

    Keep posting updates.

    Awesome job dude!
I really dig your 56 no matter what color it´s w****d in!

I understand what you mean... I have the same problem with my 34 Plymouth and I really liked the leaf gold flames.... but after 2 years I´m kinda bored with it.

Looks great. I know what you meant now, when you asked if we remember Christine. lol.

Well, I myself prefer the old paint but I'm not gonna be an *** about it. I don't have to live with it so it doesn't matter what I think. :) And the new paint is so flawless, it's hard not to like. Great work man!

I like the new paint, very cl***y, something you can live with day in and day out. I dig that... I really liked the old paint but can understand wanting something understated but with some pop... Plus the wheels can totally change the car... very cool...

Nobody can argue with the quality. And it took balls to change it up like you did. It's YOUR car, and you building it how you want. I respect that.

But I remember you saying that Larry Watson was a huge influence on you. You definitely did your homework with the previous paint scheme and built a car that was true to Watson style. A unique custom. I really admired you for that.

Your car is nice and "traditional" now. My neighbor has one just like it.

i decided to go with a "redder" red than matador red,,so instead mixed up a SUPER SECRET(TM) eye seering red that i like to call "COMPTON BLOOD RED" hahaha:D

around my area.....thats called resale red....or arrest me red....but looks like straight red toner to me......hahah its a clean look ....and will , like mentioned before, probably help the sale.....if its still for sale.....heck .....you may want to keep now.....you'll have a new outlook on the car......its fresh again ....brandon

The new paint will look way better with the new 18" Torque Thrusts.

    :D

It IS shocking to see it in such a stock paint scheme when it was so much the an***hesis of a stock tri five before. I think I would have gone with black or silver in place of white, but if you dig it, then I dig it.

The old paint will always be one of my favorite paint jobs though.

FWIW, I am ALREADY getting grief for planning on painting my coupe in the next couple years rather than leaving the original ****ty paint. It deserves good black paint.

Can someone plleeea***e post a picture of the old paint job? I love seeing new ideas for paint schemes on old cars.

I know how much work goes into a new paint job, for those of us that do their own. The new paint looks killer, and the car's stance is awesome. It takes cajones and $$ to tear a car apart and redo it. Congrats!

Chad, your car is awesome and I gave you grief about painting it too but it's such a straight original car that it could wear gloss black with pride. Not many cars of that vintage could do it without SERIOUS work.

I also agree that the original chevy paint job was one of my all time favorites but for both of you, I say a sweet car is a sweet car. Both of your cars are beautiful. That red and white is bad*** too. I don't care if there are other ride and white chevies or other black Fords. There are others because THEY LOOK GOOD IN THOSE COLORS and neither one of them BY ANY STRETCH is a cookie cutter car.

This is what it used to look like. I really shouldn't be talking ****, because IF I ever get my '57 done, I'm planning to make it a red and white Belair clone, but mostly because I don't think I have the skills to pull off a paintjob with tons of flake or candy.

There's a reason that so many 50's cars like Tri-Five Chevy's and 57-58 Plymouths get two tone red and white paint jobs, because they look great in those colors. I don't think anyone's arguing that. It's just that the car looked so pretty in it's old paintjob. I don't know what to say.

EDIT: also, for those of you asking about the trim rings, check out the link in my signature for a little tech on making your own "inner" trim rings.

i thought you were using different trim this time around... the old paint job fit the Astro Supremes realy well. this time the wide whites and steelies are perfect. the man has taste!!
