It's been there for months. I'll go back and ask. Hard to say what it's worth, looks real but who knows for sure
HELLO, the top line =rats hoel = hand drawn second line = the type style is 'eurostyle' - third line is based on something I cant remember at the moment the lower block caps 'flash' or one stroke lettering is based on ' DOM casual' thanks euro style was created in the early sixties - dom casual, ten years earlier
What's real? If not Roth, then plagiarized. So, take some good photos and make your own. Then you could change the address to your own and add any details you want. I've done that a couple of times and it came out ok-at least from hanging on the shop wall distance.
The rathole outfit used to take out those 1'' ads in the back 5 pages of some car mags. Think they were some place in Fla. ?
Not our beloved Ed Roth. This particular "Big Daddy Rat" sponsored a bike show in front of his shop during Daytona Bike Week. Don't make me search thru my old EasyRiders to find a picture.
I have been there , years ago. The Rat Hole's owner back in the day was Carl Smith and he did sponsor a big show during bike week, I believe his son took it over after he passed away. He was a gruff looking biker but he was a educated man and he was air brushing back in the early 60's. As I recall he had several locations. HRP
I seem to recall hearing over the years that Ed Roth was pretty casual about enforcing any kind of copyright on most of his designs when it involved "one-offs" or for work that was for personal use. Though he probably took a different view of things if it involved mass production and sales, or the use of his name associated with them. Cool sign, nonetheless!
I remember being at the Rat's Hole in Daytona Beach in 1968. It was located on the main drag going to the pier at the beach - doing hand painted t-shirts. When I first saw it, I thought that it was Ed Roth - relocated - but came to find-out this place had been there for about five years and the operator WAS NOT Ed Roth. Many of the shirts and drawings at the Rat's Hole were very similar to Mr. Roth's OR ..... Mr. Roth's were very similar to the Rat Hole's. Whoever was first (?) at the weirdo t-shirts...I'm not going to go there but their works were very much alike. I believe I remember seeing or hearing that the proprietor of the Daytona Beach Shop died a few years ago. https://ratdaddystudios.smugmug.com/My-Photography/The-Rats-Hole/
Been there, done that, got the t-shirt! Vacationed in Daytona Beach as a teenager with my parents. Not a good part of town back then, why my parents took me there for a shirt is beyond me.
