Hot Rods Better 4" or 4 1/8 flathead crank?

    Hi all, so..after lot of visible problem is time to rebuild my 8ba..it has a 3x3/4 crank…..was thinking
    to buy at stroker kit and bore the engine ,with aluminum flywheel?? i have a potvin climax 400 lift cam,and navarro intake with 97s,isky spring with hollow adjustable lifters,what you suggest ? what stroke is better?i have a 3 speed for transmission and 48 banjo axle…i really like fast accelerations….thanks for your help...
     
  2. No subs***ute for cubic inches. Go big my friend you will not regret. Don’t be afraid of a 4 1/4 stroke. Will cost close to same as 4 or 4 1/8th. Enjoy.

    Well if the transmission survives you will probably break axles or shear keys, they aren't real strong and won't take a lot of abuse. I have to agree with KIWinUS that the cost is about the same so go with the 4 1/4' stroker kit.

    I went with a merc crank in mine. Aluminum fly wheel, overbore of .125 and a 471 blower. It runs better than a SBC but no match for a 455 Olds. It cost a ****** fortune to build. I have absolutely no regrets! :cool:

    The 4 1/4 stroke needs lot of engine modifies….i have to grind the lower part of cylinders cause the rods interference , going to buy a balanced **** kit 4 1/8 x 3 5/16 …will do a good porting job and shim correctly the valve springs for correct pressure in all of them….
