Hey guys. Doing my monthly Winter start up of "Sophie", my 1955 Ford Country Sedan wagon and discovered the front p***enger-side door is not latching. (Doesn't stay closed) I turned the star-shaped gear (see picture) with my hand and noticed that it doesn't catch/stop. Is this a big job to fix? Thanks, Mato
This would be the guy and fellow member to ask,his blog covers just about everything on a '55-56 car. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/members/danman55.70276/
Not on a 55 but on a 56; the outer handle ****on was coming out to normal but the arm it was hitting operate it was not. I took off the door panel and the door handle and could see it thru the hole. I was able to free it up and lubricate it. Once it was free everything works fine. I left the handle off for a few days and continued to use a screw driver to push the arm to open the door. I also had to adjust the screw on the end of the ****on to make sure the ****on adjusting screw had a gap to know the latch would work. Hope this helps
Ray - got your message on my site, going to respond there since it is easier for me to load files and all...
