    H.A.M.B.,

In LA area for a couple of days.......what does a Detroiter do?

My wife gave me a birthday gift of some track time out at Willow Springs Raceway in Rosamond, CA this September with a buddy. Track day is Wednesday and we're not flying back to Detroit until Friday afternoon. Anyone have any tips on some good cruise hang-outs, build-shops, car museums, events, etc. that some motor-city dudes could enjoy? I hate to waste the opportunity just sitting in a bar somewhere...not that that's a bad thing but I can do that here.

    I'd really appreciate some help.

  2. Get out of the city, and enjoy the mountains. Down to the ocean. Anyplace but the mind bending congestion of the city. but that's just me.

    Petersen museum maybe?

Toluca Lake Bob's Big Boy, Friday night (Barris shop is a couple miles away) in San Fernando Valley.
Auto/Aero Books, Burbank for great car/rod.resto literature.
Donut Derelicts, Sunday Morning in Huntington Beach. Go early!
Mooneyes retail shop in Santa Fe Springs. Great merch.
Pomona Swap Meet or Long Beach Veteran's Stadium Old Car
Swap meet, if either are happening while you're there. Peterson's Automotive Museum Fairfax and Wilshire.
RESTAURANTS AND CLUBS: Musso and Franks restaurant, Hollywood Blvd (Not a rod scene, just a cool old restaurant. The Tiki T, Sunset Blvd in Silverlake, a small, authentic Tiki Bar. Pacific Dining Car downtown L.A. Great steaks served in a retro Railroad car. Pricey, but worth experiencing! Pink's hot dogs Highland and La Brea, heart of Hollyweird, anytime day or night. In and Out Burger, unless you're a vegetarian.

  8. Better to hit Donut Derelicts on Saturday morning, about 5:30 am - if you go Sunday all you'll see are donuts!

Send me a PM when you're in town, and i'll hook you up. I keep track of all the things going on in So Cal. By the way,I used to race go-carts at Willow when I was younger. 250 Rotax,140MPH on the big track, before they made the carts switch to the "Streets of Willow" track. My best friend Mike LeNarz, got picked to race with a bunch of magazine guys in the Toyota Grand Prix cars. He was kicking thier ***es,so they sabatoged his car before the second race(sore losers).
