Hot Rods 9 inch pumpkin question

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Andrew Button, Feb 25, 2021.

  1. Edelbrock stubbornly refuses to make a inline 2-4V intake (other than a tunnel ram) with the spread for Holleys, that way they can sell more Edelbrock carbs....

I run mine one to one without issues, my cam is a 514 lift so the motor is no slouch as evidence of what it ran in the nova.
The T is about a thousand pounds lighter than the nova and with it's light weight it's really not taxing the engine when it's not in the powerband. Like you without any safety, there's really no way to get printed numbers to compare what the changes did, like you can at the track.
The best you can do is test hits on abandoned roads or parking lots, personally my car gets a little light at speed and without that safety I run out of balls before throttle. Now before the big egos come out my Henry J pulled the wheels every p*** and another one of my old hot rods has a blown 540 that's pushing a thousand horse, but that wide open T roadster with lap belts and that hot small block I have no problem lifting when it floats.
1-1 linkage is the best for even fuel distribution to all 8 intake ports and the car isn't going to come around you unless you floor it making a right/left turn onto another roadway, I've been driving this setup for the past 13 years.
Here's the older milder engine that had an ignition problem that day and you can see it's not coming around even with no traction, I certainly don't baby this thing even if I do let up at the top of second gear lol

With a light car like your T I cannot see you having any issues with the stock case

I have personally seen two 9” failures, both at the track on slicks and both were stock pumpkins. They both broke the pinion support. As the car accelerates it tries to push the pinion gear forward. I believe your stock carrier with the Daytona support will be plenty strong for what you’re doing.

I decided to go with a Strange iron case with an iron Daytona pinion, 4.11s, putting all ARP hardware in it case, lightened Detroit locker, billet pinion yoke and all new 1350s for the joints as I am getting a new driveshaft made. probably 3 inch chromoly. Its already using Currie 31 Spline forged axles.
