OK, I'm drooling over this 68 RS/SS 396. The guy sez it's not the original motor so I take a picture of the stamped numbers in front on the block. Can anyone decipher what these mean?
It looks like a 396/325 with a TH 400 from a '67 passenger car, judging from the partial V.I.N. and the IV suffix. I could be wrong though. Did you see the casting date by chance?
yeah, that's what it is. The engine was assembled on Jan 3rd, 1967 in Tonawanda, the car was assembled in Los Angeles. The casting date on those blocks can be hard to find, I have a 1966 that it's near the oil pan rail, on the side of the block.
the only "other number" I see is the partial VIN, stamped upside down, overlapping the correctly stamped one. or what are you referring to?
I'm not a pro at this, I had no idea there were multiple stampings on the block. In your opinion, how much of a discount would you say not having the original motor in this Camaro reduces the value? As far as being off topic, I had to pic one and none of the options looked better. I'm not a fan of the way this website is set up to begin with but I enjoy the content.
There is no where on the HAMB to talk about off topic cars like that...it's off topic. Not what we're here to discuss. And I have no idea on the value of the off topic car.
