Since August of 2009 when it was first posted, the Hamb has been unable to locate Dan Glover's 57 Chevy. I thought a thread with the last known location in the title instead of where it was originally from (Yuciapa Ca) might help. From past info posted here, this is latest known info: Lost 1957 Chevy 210 2 dr post sedan last seen in _______, Illinois and owned by ________(Jakes Rakes). Car was sold in 199__ from an ad placed by JakesRakes in the __________, Illinois Thifty Nickel paper. At time of sale, car was red with a 307 engine in stock location with no front bumper or grille. Car may have later gone to a government auction. Original thread: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...gold-57-chevy-from-yucaipa-california.386823/
The last lost car H.AM.B.er's tried too locate was done so in 16 mins. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/new-member-searching-for-grandfathers-old-ride.1221892/ so I'll bump the thread for you.
the 32 in the "searching for grandfathers old ride" thread has not been found, only pictures from the late 70's maybe early 80's. The grandson is still looking for the 32. Curt R
The original thread had Yucaipa, Ca in title. Since car was last seen in Illinois, hoping this thread will get Illinois guys attention.
Seeing that it's a 210 Sedan, not likely it was returned to stock. If it were a Conv., definitely. A hardtop, quite possibly. Would be a lot of work to retro fit a stock firewall, etc, though that may have already been done to the 1995 version. In addition to the possibilities 2old2fast listed, it's possible the car (like so many) started to have mechanical issues, was torn down for a full rebuild and still sits blown apart in a garage. Also possible it simply sits in a garage as is and never gets driven because the owner lost interest (but still isn't interested in selling off the car). If the owner is a casual 'car guy' that's not on social media or hanging out with car guys, only a select few know of the car. The car could have been changed up with new paint, rolling stock and had the wheelie bars deleted making it look like a "normal" fixed up 57 and we'd never have a clue the Glover 57 just idled past us.
another thread on that car https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/fresh-from-1995-dan-glovers-mid-engined-57.449028/
I guess not, I asked that on the other thread about trying to find the car. If the red car above is it, they changed it a lot. Dans car was a 210....
Hey Mark, the car in that photo is a 210 that someone tried to make into a Bel Air. I've seen this a lot. 57 Bel Air post cars have a stainless A pillar trim cover and stainless trim across the top of the door frame/ quarter windows. Looks like someone just installed the Bel Air side panels on a 210.
Was common to dress up to bel air. I was lookin at the wheels, firewall and even bumper delete. Plus its so close to Alton
Seems unlikely to me that a later owner would have opted to cut more out of the firewall and windshield base area in order to move the engine forward. Plus rear is narrowed more, bigger tubs etc. Lots of things can happen over time of course. The Glover car sure looks much more sanitary.
