I have a 1950 Mercury the floors are mostly gone so I was looking at bracing it before I put the floors in and chop it. Does anyone have the A- post to A-post, b-post to b-post upper and lower measurements? Also any other measurements to help keep the car in square?
Sounds like you have a M***ive project in front of you. I have never heard of one but it sounds like you need an actual body Blueprint. Might check around for a Bear Body shop and Frame alignment books. I know the Crash books gave diagonal numbers from many main points. There's all kind of vintage book dealers out there. Next best move is find someone close with a nice stock complete car to use as a Polock blue print. One of the issues you may have with a second party giving you numbers to build from is the two of you probably won't be doing the same exact thing with the Tape Measure.
You might wanna ask the guy chopping his 49’, he’s doin a helluva job and he’d probably be a wealth of knowledge, 49’ and 50’ are the same except for the rear window, 49’ has a 3 piece window Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
F.Y.I. Both 2 door and 4 door share the same exact floor pan in both 49 and 50. There happens to be one that was just listed in our cl***ified section today. Might be a good step forward.
Pretty much every '49-51 Merc that hasn't been restored requires these things. The rocker design was terrible on these cars and unless it was sitting in a garage it's whole life there will be rust in the rockers and floors. I am working on replacing them on mine right now as well.
Mine was sitting in a junk yard for 50ish years. The weather in the Appalachian Mountains eats cars up.
Here's some helpful drawings. https://www.google.com/search?q=195...j33i10i160.11305j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
This book by Rich Johnson How To Build Shoebox FORDS Mercurys 1949-1954 contains dimensioned frame drawings of 1949-51 Mercurys on page 44. Send me a PM with you email address and I'll try and email the drawings to you.
OK. That book is no longer in print and now sells for over $100 on Ebay. Will keep and eye out for your PM.
Here's another manual that has the info you need. https://www.ebay.com/itm/133242042851?mkevt=1&mkcid=28&chn=ps
Here are the 1949-51 Merc frame dimensions. Ignore the 1952-54 Merc. Station Wagon ***le which refers to another drawing not shown. Print and Cut and paste
Bringing this thread back up. I need to replace the rockers on my 4-door Merc as the inner profile is pretty crispy or already gone. Does anyone have measurements from A- post to A-post and B-post to B-post? Thanks!
