I'd probably start by posting to every tri 5 group/message board on the internet, then its going to every swap meet possible. It looks like a solid piece, a few had to survive. I'll keep an eye out if I happen to see it on any recent car photo's. Good luck Barn Hunter!

It does look like the center spear is one piece on Dominique but I would definitely use the Whitney piece if I find one. There are those few discrepancies like the horizontal spear and that Mark scaled the center on Dominique to be 3 1/4 inches where this is 4 inches. To me, this piece is close enough to use and if something more exact comes along, then it can be changed. It does say that it can be mounted to a mesh grille without drilling holes so that is a bonus. Now on to find one. I've got a new mission!
A big THANK YOU to everyone who has put in the effort to help research this!
And if you run across one...please let me know.

Some time ago I posted that I have what I believe to be a 1955 Buick grille bar. When I acquired it many years ago I am sure I had reason to think/know it was ‘55 model. With all the uncertainty in this thread, I am not so sure.

In any case, I finally got around to digging out and taking pics.......it is thirty two inches long, bar is one piece with bolt insert.

EDIT/UPDATE......After further research, I am now certain this IS a 1955 Buick grille trim bar.

The ad says "approximately" 4 inches diameter, no way I'd take that as an exact measurement, my guess is ol' J.C. was rounding up to make it sound better. Also, the picture in the ad is a drawing, the one pic of Dominique is pretty grainy with a lot of reflections, as is the one pic of the actual piece used on a '55 Chevy.

Until you have one in hand, nothing is for certain, but I'd bet money that is the piece. I think the bright sunshine reflection on the original Dominique pic just makes it look like the center bar continues all the way through. It's also near impossible to see where the back side edge of the center round section is, which would have to be dead-on to get a really accurate scale. A portion of it's diameter could be obscured or blacked out by the shadows.

When I read your post, my first thought was 'I'd take that bet.' Looking at the pics again, in the B/W pic it looks like a two piece spear, but in the color pic, it looks like a one piece spear notched for the roundel. So I'm not as convinced as I was about the one piece spear, but I still don't think it was the J.C. Whitney piece. We'll have to wait & see when he gets one on the car.

Interesting. It doesn't look like the proportions are the same as the J.C. Whitney piece but it might be the camera angle. It would be great to see one in person.

No clue .. in so far as worth playing with or not. Also not abreast of dismantling of the following part.

.. but a 1963 Chrysler 300 grille medallion seems to be 2 piece ?? Center part being the part to fiddle with. If so .. maybe a piece to chop up for use or mold purposes ??

Sure someone else would give a better answer. Wish centerpiece measures were present.
