At the CCR 2019 I saw that Merc and loved the Hudson taillights. On my Hudson when it was built I fitted a copy of 49 Merc taillights and really never liked them as it made the rear of the car look to wide.
(Does my rear end look to big with these lights?).
When talking to the owner who I now know as David Wolks I mentioned about my Hudson and thought it funny that he had a Merc with Hudson lights and I had a Hudson with Merc lights.
So after I got back to Australia I started searching for a set of 48 Hudson taillights that really should have been on my 48 Hudson. Found a set with perfect chrome and gl***. They may have been restored by someone but the price was right.
The original Hudson lights for a 48 have an offset surround to compensate for the shape of the guard. I believe that David had a set specially made as the Merc has a flatter area where the lights mount.
We were able to trim the Hudson ones I had as they were not in the exact position as on an original Hudson where they are mounted higher. Anyway it worked well and they looked liked they belonged there. Probably one of the best changes made to the Hudson since built(that and the modified grille).
Customs are always evolving but I think I am finished with changes now.
Here are progress pictures as we did them and the last picture are the 48 Hudson lights on David's car. 20200309_144657.jpg 20200309_144944.jpg 20200309_145012.jpg 20200311_142216 (002) (Medium).jpg 20200311_142407 (002) (Medium).jpg a86be72572c7680333c44ff3f3dc8823.jpg
