Good evening from Sweden. As a lot of other newbies I've been on and off the HAMB for last ten years or so. I tend to alternate between old cars and bikes so after my last Hudson build there was a break from four wheels for a while. But then this beauty came my way and is now being totally rebuilt by myself under the shell. We'll see if I can keep my fingers off doing something about the outer apperance, but I really like it as it is. Like a friend said: it looks like an old tug boat that's been bumping into hard stuff all it's life. All metal everywhere has dents. It's getting a sbc that I'm trying to pair up with the super heavy and slow Muncie 420 toploader that came with the truck from the factory. I've read up on earlier threads so I do not need all the pros and (a lot more) cons using the old Muncie. I've driven it quite a lot and sort of enjoy the clunky machine operator style. Goes well with the truck. What I do need help with is finding a Bell Housing that would fit to the sbc. It should have the cross member mounts for the gear box on it, instead of as usual, on the tail pipe of the box. Apparently due to the weight of the gear box. We do not have the kind of s**** yards here in Sweden to find such stuff, I'm sad to say. I think the bellhousing could fit from a Chevy/GM V8 to Muncie from -55 (?) to ca -67. I would greatly appreciate any input on the exact type and where to find one. I'm sorry if this is not up to HAMB standards for some reason. Let me know and I'll try to adjust. All the best, from a cold Sweden, Ola
Oh. Forgot: will of course change the wheels to something more period correct. These were on when I bought it. And it used to have an inline six that was more or less dead, that's why the SBC comes in to play. And the truck is a GMC from -58. But you saw that already.
Hi & welcome. Cannot help much with the correct bell housing as my Chevy stuff revolves around 6 cylinders as my Avitar photo shows. But what you need is out there, you just need to find out where to look. Someone else should be along that can help. If you post a question on that on the hokey *** message board more will see it as not all look at the welcome board. Your truck definately has that broke in and rode hard look. I remember those Hudson's from when I began driving in 1953. actually saw one locally several weeks ago but have no clue owns it. It was restored and coloir was blue & white. Good luck with your truck build. Start a build thread with photo's so we can keep up with your progress. Jimmie
