Paradise Mesa, around 1952-52: Bean Bandits dragster, behind it is Ed "Axle" Stewart's deuce roadster, and Drifters '35 Ford fuel coupe, running a blown flathead.

Max Balchowski, at left, in his Jimmy Summers-built deuce roadster, with a LaSalle V-8, ready to race Fred Larsen, in his roadster, first built by Jim Travers, flathead powered. On the starting line, second from left: Lou Baney, Saugus track manager. Today those hills are the only indication of where the Saugus drag strip was, and the rest is now the location of Canyon High School.

Harold Cassaurag, possibly at Vacaville. Tragically, he died in this coupe when it flipped in the lights.

Some of the owners would bring their cars over to the spectator side to let us see them or they were picking up their kids. Joe Amato (I believe) AA/A Fiat out of A&A Speed Shop. Around 1966 A-A Fiat-1966.jpg

    Hello,

Like all surprises when any current digital editing takes place, an unusual color print was available to see. It looked like a modern art print that would be 3’x4’ hung on a fancy wall of a ritzy art studio. The colors were always there as the digital edits try to get to the core of clarity. What looks like a double exposure shows Chris Karamesines at the dragstrip in Kent, Washington during his early touring pro days. It was 1963.

The silver object in the background is not a Ghia sporty car or a modified Corvette. It is the aluminum body of the trailer built for “The Chizzler” version 1963. (check out the custom, original design, low swoopy headers)

    Thanks @martystrode

The take from the short 1963 movie looks like an artistic painting seen at modern art museums and studios.

    OLDER POST:

    Hello,

Everyone knows I like old drag racing movies. @martystrode allowed me access to his collection of old drag racing movies and wanted me to come up with something useful for everyone to see how it was in the Pacific Northwest, back in those early days. We all know that drag racing pros tour all over the place. Chicago to Kent, Washington is a long haul both ways. (2000+ miles one way) The clip is one of those oddball jokester times that happen between races.
    the Greek film by @martystrode

As far as something useful, documenting something as a milestone went along with something that happened recently in 2020. Chris Karamesines , the Greek, is a legend in motor sports and will retire soon. With his early start and illustrious career, we can all stand back and wonder in amazement.

How does a 89-91 year old guy continue to do what he does best? 16 in 1945 + 75 years to 2020 = 91

    Jnaki

Thanks @martystrode for the chance to look at someone else’s outlook in drag racing. We can all learn something from this episode. Hopefully, there will be more PNW clips to come.

This is my brother’s and my introduction to Chris Karamesines when he came out West to Riverside Raceway in 1959 for a giant East VS West drag meet. The Greek at age 30?

The Greek has come a long way from 1959… So, what does an old drag racer do for an encore? Krista Baldwin to Make Top Fuel Debut in 2021 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Season Opener.

Granddaughter of Top Fuel veteran Chris Karamesines is the daughter of the late racer Bobby Baldwin.

That "T" dragster reminds me of a Stinger model I have from Monogram..... :)
