i think 64-66 mustang spindels disks and calper mounts is what ya need im thinkin about this swap im my 61 comet but i dont really have the cash righ now
that would be 5 lug of course so then i would ne and 8in rear then i would need a 200/c4 or a 240 2x2 /3speed and the list gos on....
Might also want to look at the PINTO brakes from that era. They are a lighter version of the Mustang II. I used them on a coupe many years ago. They worked fine.........jb EXSEDAN
The 64-66 Mustang disc parts are probably expensive and best left to restorers. There are kits that you can use V8 spindles from an early mustang/falcon and use big brakes from a Cobra I think. The Mustang II is a completely different animal. I've never heard of swapping those discs onto a Falcon. The most common source is the Granada/Maverick spindle which is 5 lug. Best bet is to get the whole car and use front and rear ends. You can get adapters from www.mustangsteve.com to use the stock steering linkage with the Granada spindles. Do a search, this has been discussed recently, I think in the last few weeks. Also try mustang steve's FYI Ford Forum, fordsix.com, tffn.net for more inspiration/information.
ford granada will bolt right up to your stock control arms and tie rod ends if your falcon is a 6 cyl car you will need to swap out your outer tie rod ends for granada's
find an old granada or monarch mid to late 70's usually cheep to find and all the parts inter change thats how i did the comet and i've got a 72 mustang that'll never see the road again for my fairlane always the cheep skate Al
Granada's are a bolt on. Go to tffn.net, it's a Falcon forum, and they have all the info on this swap.
Some of the early Falcon upper control arms have a ball joint that will not fit with later spindles like a disc brake off a Maverick. In that case you can purchase a repo upper Mustang control arm that bolts onto the Falcon. That is what I used. The mentioned sleeves for the tie rods from mustangsteve.com worked well for me.
I just installed disk brakes on my daughters 66 6cyl Mustang. I used a bracket from Scarebird Mechanical you use late model rotors and calipers. The brakes now will stop and work great.
All-aftermarket Granada swap. There's even a tech walkthrough about the swap in general. They're not hiding anything like most aftermarket people, just providing a source for brand new OE-style parts. I don't know anything about them, but at least one guy on www.FordSix.com is using their stuff and he hasn't complained. The Granada was the final outgrowth of the Falcon platform introduced in 1960 so it's the hot ticket for up-to-date brakes for Falcons and early Mustangs. -Dave
Ken: I've been wanting to do this swap on my Comet. But the guy from Scarebird hasn't been very helpful with asnsw2ering questions. What sorts of modifications did you need to do to the hub and rotor to get everything to work? Was there anything else you needed to modify? Ford used four different combinations of upper & lower ball joints from 1960-1964. To do the 6-cyl Granada or maverick swap you need to have the "large" upper and lower ball joints. 1960-1961 had small upper and lower ball joints (you'll need to swap both the upper and lower control arms to '65 mustang units) 1962 - mid-1963 had small upper and large lower ball joints (you'll need to swap both the upper control arms to '65 mustang units) later-1963 used two different upper ball joints 3 & 4 bolt styles. I *think* they'll both work, but you might have to swap to the mustang upper control arms. Remember if you're swapping to front disc you'll need a dual-resivour disc/drum master cylinder. The unit for a '67 mustang should be a direct bolt-in.
