Can anyone cross reference for me? So far I've not found a upper steering column bearing for my 56 Pontiac.

Plenty for a Chevy. Pics looks similar but.........just wanted to check.

If you provide some pictures and dimensions of your Pontiac bearing, then I expect some of us Chevy guys could look and see if the match. I expect there are 20 chevy steering column experts per pontiac steering column expert...

and I also seriously doubt they are the same.

the drawing shows that the bearing comes out of the contact....did you try to remove the outer race?

    Thanks.

The wire is all frayed and I noted that on the Chevy bearing it all comes as one piece. I figured two birds with one stone.

Worse case I can see about removing the bearing and replacing the wire and truth be known I'm not even sure I'm going to run a horn but just looking to take the easy route.

    I'll take it apart tomorrow.

The Chevy bearing/contact ***embly fits inside the tube, I think the tube ID is about 1-5/8 to 1-11/16 (the OD is 1-3/4 and it's a thin wall tube at the end). I don't have one apart here to measure exactly. But if the cast part is close to that ID, it might work, although the contact diameter will probably be smaller---the Chevy contact outer edge is even with the outer edge of the 1-3/4 tube.
