I woulldn't have any at all. About 2 hours after I talked to Aaron I was on I 465 on the south side of Indianapolis crossing the white river. The left lane had the pavment stripped off with one of those machines and I was on it going 70 along witht everyone else. I saw the guy in front of me hit something, he damn near lost it. I hit it next. Turns out the concrete pavement started again with an abrupt 2 inch rise. No signs, no nuthin. Well when I hit that ***** at that speed all hell broke loose, the newly lowered rear end bottomed out the LF Sombrero took off for parts unknown, The right front went across 3 traffic lanes and came to rest against the concrete bridge barrier. The worst was the LR, the sombrero came off the wheel and rattled aroung in there under the skirt and then finally tore the skirt off. I stopped to survey the damage and then went back to get my stuff. Had to make 2 trips as the skirt and the damaged cover were on the left shoulder and the other cover was on the right shoulder. That cover is salvagable but the other is toast. I think the skirt can be fixed. What with the fender on my conver and this I'm plus the fenders on my other car (non hamb type car) I'm thinking this ain't my year. BB
At least you are still under power, which is more than I can say..... Look past the difficulty, and have some extra fun for your pals that can't make it...... Besides, remember: "Any adventure that makes a great story ****s while it is happening."
I heard about your troubles already via a phone call with Earl Schieb. I think he's planning on bringing a body hammer and between him and Rudy perhaps they can get that fender straightened out enought to reinstal. See you on Friday bud, (10am-ish)....and would you please save me a spot with an extra chair.
Bob I had a buddy hit a bump like that comming from Back to the fifies, and the hubcap ripped the valve stem out, and he almost ate **** into a bridge overp*** in his 49 merc. Just thank god its the car that got dammaged not you. Take it easy, next time bring the speed up to 90 you might not feel the bumps than.... see ya Chris
Damn Bob...that ****s.. I've seen those milled roads cause some heavy damage to cars.. a good friend ripped both his collectors right off the headers on his 454 powered 62 Impala...and the road he was on didn't have signs either Tony
I'm smiling Jeff, nick32vic picked up an extra set of ambulance sombreros for me last weekend and maybe tomorrow we can fix that skirt. I like the skirts and caps and they will be back on. BB
That car needs chrome. Sorry to hear about it Bob....things like this happen in 3's. Maybe it's over now?
awwww, and here I thought it'd be a good excuse to lose the skirts...I think it looks much more proportionate without them...but that's just me...sorry about the bang-up bob, maybe next time you'll make a g***er and not worry about those little 1 foot high bumps? hahaha
hang in there Bob, it'll get better... remember the drags are only 23 days, 2 hours and 23 minutes away
Hey Bob glad to hear you're OK.The car can be fixed but people are more difficult to fix. That is the second time today I've had to say that. I drove about 125 miles(one way)yesterday to stripe a 34 Ford coupe and after finishing it,I got about 3 miles down the road and the Safari died.Thought it was vapor locked(nearly 100 degrees ambient)and finally discovered(after about 2 hours in the sun)it was a load of bad gas.Had already wired an elec.pump in so I blew out the lines, filled it with premium and a few cans of dry gas and eased it home. Got here and found out my oldest boy had totalled his truck. He got broadsided by a stop sign runner and it flipped him over into a ditch and up against a tree.At least he didn't suffer any major injuries. He's more worried about the truck(typical kid). Anyway I hope,"JIMMY" wasn't injured. Take care buddy. Ray
No sense trying to get anything out the highway dept, i had a similar deal about ten years ago and mine was not drivable cause it snappped my blocks on the rear of my truck. highway dept told me i was probably going to fast and not paying enuff attention. So i paided for the towing and expenses to fix it. Good luck and maybe your bad luck is swaying to the other side.
Now you know why I trailer my car whenever I leave the state. That was supposed to make you smile Bob. Like CheaterChris says to ya, be glad you didn't get hurt or damaged. I don't know if you would look that good in a skirt either. Carl
Bob, That really ****s, but like they say...."You've got your health!" Just glad you weren't on a bike..........
A Guy from around OKC was on his way to a show this past weekend in his 56 Crown Vicky. Extremly nice car, when his hood opened at speed. Ruined the hood and put two base ball size dents in his roof. Didn't hurt the trim though. **** happens when ya least expect it.
It could have been worse... Cadillac Bob could have been behind you in the Lincoln... Glad to see you are in one piece!
Why are you running hub caps on the back in the first place? You can't see them with the skirts on. It still looks pink to me.
they've been having that problem a lot lately in Chicago on the highways. Guess what? The state agreed to pay for damages! There may be enough complaints in IN to warrant a similar reaction
Eric, the car is gonna get some chrome this winter, bumpers, the middle grille bars and rocker panel molding also belt line molding. I might even use the functional appleton 112's that I was gonna put on the 52 convert. BB
Bumpers will do wonders for the car. I've always thought most "street rods" could be saved with some paint, wheels/tires, and a rechroming. The door handles however...
