Hot Rods What's it like to live with a quick change rear axle under your hot rod?

I’m curious, did you try any other gear sets?I had the exact same set up and mine had a little noise, but nothing even close to like a gear drive in a motor. I had 3 sets of gears at the time all were about the same. You actually had to kind of listen for it to notice it. At highway speeds it was definitely there though,, a very high-pitched whine but not very loud. It was barely audible over the wind noise.

I have a Winters V8 rear under my deuce roadster and deuce pu, both with helical gears so they're fairly quiet. When I built the 2004 NSRA giveaway I used a Winters with straight cuts and it had a noticeable howl. Really enjoy them. I've sold a lot of them in the last 20 years and did quite a few in customer chassis. Never had a complaint to date. I'll be doing several thru out this spring summer.

  5. Danny , I put a Speedway Engineering Mini-Stock with 3:66 gears in my 33 Willys project.
I will let you know about the noise when it hits the street. I think with the cammed up 327 &
loud pipes, it will sound just right. Jerry Drye from N.C. 95DAD8F3-5684-44B8-8D64-77C63C2413E4_1_201_a.jpeg C601FE1E-257D-4A02-B36A-09176CB8CD1E_1_201_a.jpeg

Well it works both ways. It’s all fun and games until you’re in a big rush at the dirt track, and somebody puts them in wrong. Then as soon as they go to push the car off you know you’re screwed...

  7. I have a Champ Q/C with adapters and Ford bells in my 29 Ford roadster, it was very noisy, then I put a Black Gold limited slip spider set and helical cut gears in it and it's very quiet now.
