Anybody know what later model rear end will fit in a 1947 Desoto without too much trouble? Thanks

Looking to add disks or a limited slip? Or maybe just some more mild gears, what are your goals...

I would think a ford ranger 8.8 would be perfect, simple, widely available and not expensive.

In my previous -40 Plymouth I use a Jeep Cherokee Dana 35 rear. It was a perfect size and I think it had 3.23:1 ratio. plym36.jpg

  6. Hard to give a definitive recommendation without more information. In doing a rear axle swap, there are several factors to consider- what is the WMS (wheel mounting surface) to WMS? Bolt circle for wheels? Pinion centered or off centered? Desired ratio? How does it attach (coil vs. leaf)? How much fabrication/modification are you willing to do? How available are parts for the axle/brake ***embly? I think yours is leaf spring, so you would want to look in that direction. The Ford 8.8 already mentioned out of Ranger Pickups are a good choice, but will require "flipping" the spring pads, and I think the pinion is slightly off center.
