Hey guys, I'm replacing the rear quarter gl*** on my 57 Chevy 2dr Sedan with replacements from Auto City Cl***ic. The problem I'm having is that the bottom of the rail that the gl*** sits in is different. The replacement doesn't have the track in the middle for the roller. Has anyone else dealt with this? I tried calling them today but they're closed. Any help is appreciated, thanks. Sent from my SM-G981U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
You have to take the roller track piece off the old one and attach it to those tabs on the new one. They take time to make those tabs but not the piece of track! Go figure!!! Just use flat headed screws when you attach it to the new one. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Looks to me like you have to cut off the old one and put it on the new one. I would think steel pop rivits might do it
Thanks guys, I guess I knew it all along but tried to convince myself there had to be another way. They didn't say anything about this when I ordered it lol! Sent from my SM-G981U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I just put together my '57 2 door sedan and my original channels looked like your replacement new ones. Both of my short track pieces attached to the lower sash with screws to those tabs like your new one has. I had parted out several 55, 56 and 57 cars and I never saw one with that roller track permanently attached to the sash like that, also it appears like your track piece is cut on the corners. You DO NOT want to weld or pop rivet that track into place, the reason it screws on is so you can get the regulator and the gl*** in the hole, then slide the roller track onto the regulator and screw them both together once they're in the car. Not saying it'd be impossible to do with the track permanently attached but it's going to be a lot harder. It's also tougher to get the window into the car's body with that track in place. Are you 100% sure there aren't screws holding that roller track to the old sash?
Thinking there must be an engineering change in there some place. Your original is going to be more difficult to install. And will take a different approach than what is written in the ***embly manual. I think I’ll go look after while.
