I need to drop my 54 chevy about 2 inches and i'm planning on just cutting the coil springs one round. Is this going to be enough? I don't want to go much more cause i plan on bagging it in the future. How many coils can i take before it messes up the front end. Thanks in advance
Hey Tony- These Chev's don't have a lot of coils to start with, so I would start with just one. I tried this on a '50 Chevy I had years ago and 1 did the trick. How are you going to cut them? I used a cut-off wheel. Not much heat involved, so you don't have to worry about the springs failing in the future. Good luck! John
Thanks John, Yea i'm gonna use a cutting wheel because i learned a lesson years ago when we were lowering trucks and we heated them and cut coils and one got heated more than the other and sat a little crooked, so we just kept cutting until it was sitting on the bump stops.. good thing we were young cause what a ride. :~)
Holy **** .... thats exactly why i want to bag mine. BTW i dig your quotes at the bottom of the signature spot
skyrodder- Now that's a '54 sittin' right! I've got hydros in my '54 right now. I just bought the car a few weeks ago and can't wait to switch it to airbags this winter. The previous owner really beat on the lifts. I'm still fixing all the leaks and poor installation issues. The rear spring does a reversed-arch when it's dropped all the way down (yikes). For safety's sake, I'll be putting the bumpstops back in soon. Can't wait to get driving it. Post some pics when you get your coils "corrected"! John
thanks guys I used 2 and 3 inch blocks in rear for 5 inch drop, but i hear that, thats a no no... dunno but i like the way it sits.. I'll get bags someday
Thanks. After I get the body work done, I'd like to paint it pearl white on top and redo the green metalflake. I'm diggin' the stance too... wish I could drive it around like that all the time.
Put Spacers Between The Spring Buckets And The Arm Retain The Orgional Spring Height And Lower The Car Approx 2 In Or So
