Dirt Squirt new to group. Working on 51 Chevy truck for the wife. Her dad gave it to her. Starting out by swapping old 216 to 235. Looking forward to it.
Hi & welcome. A 235 works great for those and keeps the look. My avitar photo here shows the 235 I put i my 46 Chevy Coupe. If you need any replacement parts for the truck you can look at both www.chevsofthe40s.com and at www.fillingstation.com as they have parts up into the early 60's. I bought a bunch from both when redoing the 46. Engine speed parts such as dual intake with two 2 bbl Weber carbs, dual shorty headers (co clear that huge intake), cam all came from Cliffords. Would have to look up their website but it is something like www.jackcliffordperformance.com . Not sure if Jack is in the website name or not. Great stuff there but expensive. But it all is these days. Start a build thread with photo's on the 51 as we all like to keep up with the builds. Jimmie
Welcome from Indiana. Yes, we like pics. Cool that it’s a family truck. Good luck w the build. Regards, Randy Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Remember, you can put the 216 valve cover on a 235.. will fool many but not all; I have a 54 3100 here in Illinois Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I finally got my 51 on the road three years ago after a 5 year build. Mine has a 235 and I upgraded to a T5 transmission from a mid eighties Camaro. Here is a link to my HAMB build thread in case you're interested. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/51-chevy-3100-project.672888/ Good luck with your truck!!
