$375. It's 3 hours away, probably will cost $70 in gas to get there and back. Looks to be in really good condition except for that faded extension. The first pic is before he took it off the car. My grill would have to be rechromed and I bet that would be at least $500....probably way more! What do y'all think?
looks OK if you can live with the faded section as a core it would do its job too. did you get pics of the back? I dont see any on ebay, so... If you can knock it down to 300.00 and make up your gas money your only be out on time. I did some bumpers and guards, it was about 600.00 each and about 150 each guard. just as an example
I've been doing some searching for platers in OR. There just aren't any. Checked NorCal and the same thing. We used to have a good plater, here in Medford but, he went out of business, within the last 2 years, I think From what I've found, it's around $500, just for a bumper, plus shipping so, I think I'd go for what you've found, for sure, even at full price.
Looks to be a pretty fair price from the pictures I have seen some on some facebook Ford Groups going for $400 plus.
I used Star Bright finishes in Oregon City for my rear bumper and hood plane. I'm pleased with the work, they use an outside plater, not sure who. $850 for my bumper.
Thanks all for the info but I'm a dollar short and a day late! Looks like HAMBer PaddycakeFTW got it. Good job Eric, looks like a really nice grill! Unless another one comes up at a decent price, I'll probably wind up just painting mine. We've got a chrome shop in the Bay Area...ATBumpers.com and they list their prices. 3 categories....nickel/chrome, copper/nickel/chrome and show chrome. For the middle category copper/nickel/chrome they want $1000 for the grill and $440 for a bumper. For show chrome.........double that!
I saw a show on You Tube where they took the chrome to a plater, and stopped after the copper application. It was for a “patina” paint job on a truck. The copper looked really cool I thought. They put a patina on the copper to match the truck, then sealed it with clear coat.
When I priced having my '54 grill re-chromed it was closer to 2 grand to get it done right. Over the 7 years that I was building the car I started watching e bay and picked up a couple of pieces at a time, I purchased the turn signals from a guy that had some NOS parts and the extensions were re-chromed before I bought them, I bought the bullet and the 2 top pieces of the grill from Flat Top Bob in Texas and I picked up the lower piece at a swap meet. I believe all total I have about 400 dollars in everything. Deuce Roadster ( Randy Nash) found me the grill trim at Temples Salvage yard for 10 bucks and it looked like new. HRP
