The Beater is runnin' bad again. I jumped in to go to work today and it won't even get to speed in the neighborhood. A few weeks ago, I put a post up about it. I ran it out of gas. New gas, ran like a champ....for a bit. New cap, rotor, coil, plugs, rebuilt (again) the carbs. Doing the same thing. Idles fine, free revs fine. Under a load, it falls....hard. I want to take it to HotRodToHell's party tomorrow. I would take me about 16 hrs to go the 10 miles at this rate. ANyone wanna come over and give me a b-day present in the form of gettin' my flathead runnin?

this is an indication of either plugged main jets or low float level/low fuel supply. did you make sure the line from the tank to the pump flows freely? run it for a few minutes, shut it down and check the float level. make sure that you don't have any **** built-up behind the inlet valve(needle&seat) at the carb. when you rebuilt the carb did you blow-out the main p***ages AND the jets? disconnect the line from pump to carb, put it in a jar, crank it over for a few seconds and check pump output. one of these should uncover your problem. ....don't replace your ignition to fix a fuel problem

Did that...still ****py. New filters, blew out all the lines, double checked the fuel pressure. I'm gettin frustrated......I've got a small block Chevy that'll make 3x the power....maybe I should.

Is the Pertronix in a stock Ford 8BA dizzy? Refer to Bruce's marine floatation test in the archives.

    Hey Pete,
No need to ask how it's going, eh? What do your plugs look like? Any signs of arcing around the rim?

Pertronix in a stocker dizzy....plugs indicate lean mixture. Running .045 jets and 3.5 power valves. Up til the last '****py running episode' I ran .041 jets and 3.5 power valves. Frustrating as hell. I'm gonna give Bill Wallace a call and see if I can limp it out to his house. Hope it doesn't overheat at 20-30 mph.

Have you even thought about having Frankie take a look at it? last time I saw her she looked like she could solve a little problem like this. Now, world peace or a better mouse trap might take her awhile. :D
If she can't figure it out at least tell her that Frank in Bay City misses her and give her a hug for me.:)

Pete, try this take off air cleaner and look down carb wile slowly opening it up.See if gas is being ****ed up through venturie .race motor up and choke it with your hand. What happeneds is some dirt clodded main jet, chokeing it by hand will sometimes **** it through.Runing out of gas is the tip off,you ****ed up dirt from the bottom of the tank.

  16. Sooorrrry mr touchy-just tryin to help ya....
I have seen new plugs that have been gas fouled fairly quick-especially on a small inch motor with two carbs or more.....
I suppose you will figure it out.

Have you flushed out the fuel line? Any places where there are neoprene hose that might be collapsing under load? Are you still running the same electric fuel pump? Have you checked the flow of it off the car?

My goofy 2 yr. old kid was makin' goofy noises at dinner tonite. It made me think..."Better check for vacuum leaks one more time." I busted out the carb cleaner. Started it up and sprayed the bas of front carb......good. Sprayed the base of #2......stumble. Apparently, the front bolt (ya know, the upside-down one) has been over-tightened, stripping the threads. Kritz has another main carb body I can swap on to check this theory out. I'll do that tomorrow morn....I'm beat.

Frank, I should take Frankie's advice more often. I mean, what else could "Tttsssssssssssssssssssssss" mean but, "Hey dad, your car makes this sound!"
