Long time lurker (not sure my ‘64 Sunbeam Tiger really qualifies, however modified it might be), first time poster, looking for some help identifying a car in a photo from a background glimpse - trying to narrow the date of when my grandfather joined the volunteer fire department as well as settle a family debate over what car they learned to drive in ...

Anyone care to hazard a guess?

    Thanks in advance,

    Rick

1931 Murry body Model A, most likely a 4 door sedan but could be a Victoria, can't see the back part of the car. HRP

  5. It has a split splash apron...I believe that makes it a 1930.

It's a 30 Ford slant windshield fordor. Nice cars as they had very little wood. I can tell it's a fordor by how long the front door is. Vicky doors are much longer.

Correct me if I am wrong but I was under the impression the 1930 Murry bodys didn't have a slanted windshield. HRP

  9. upload_2021-4-9_9-46-3.png According to this, they were available in 1930 and 1931 ( first column, 5th down). It was on the internet so must be true.;)

Briggs and Murray both build slant window sedans, they were introduced in March 1931.

It sure does look like it's got a split apron on it, but that could be just a line of dirt from just below the door seam, water would be prone to run down there. Hard to say, the picture is not really clear enough to determine.

Looks like @Mr48chev provided the conclusive evidence - debate has always been between "Dad's car" (which has thus far been a mystery) and "Chet's Dodge", looks like there is now an answer (clearly not Chet's Dodge in the background)!

    Thanks to all

With these old pictures, sometimes it's more interesting to see what's in the background than the main subject. Thanks for sharing!
